It's a crime to see WAMO go this route but probably inevitable. There needs to be an African-American station that is totally of the moment, but one that at least once a week, honors the WAMO's grand tradition with some kind of R&B oldies program covering the 40s through the 70s. Why cede all those kinds of shows to smaller stations?

I think Cullen is about done after a long and distinguished career here at Channel 4, at WTAE radio and finally at WPTT.

When you look at her record here (and this keeps my comment within the area of "nostalgia," moderator), she was a great add to Channel 4 with her witty, sometimes sardonic stories. No station ever had anyone who could handle that better. She did well at WTAE Radio as well, leaving only when that station changed format. At PTT she got a bit shrill after a while, she seemed tired and even angry at times. Some of her fans have opined she'd be better dialing back the political talk for something more general.

It's my understanding that after WPTT changed format, she approached but was rebuffed by KDKA for anything but part-time. Other local stations also passed for whatever reason. Certainly her ratings are not going to be what they once were. She has two, maybe three choices. She could try to self syndicate, though this is not the greatest time economically to do that. The second would be to try and be picked up by some station in the counties surrounding Pittsburgh, which doesn't seem very likely (although it worked for Davey Tyson for years when he worked in Greensburg after years in Pittsburgh).

Choice # 3 is simple. Retire.
