The station has been owned by Cox Enterprises since 1964, so when the call letters were changed in 1981, no change in ownership was involved. It may have based on the so-called "Scrabble Theory" among some consultants that high-value letters such as "X", "Q", "K" and "Z" stand out in the minds of viewers.
