Subject: 50 years ago today in Pittsburgh radio

Coincidentally (or not), on July 30, 1962, the same day that WZUM 1590 premiered with an R&B format, WAMO ran an ad in the Post-Gaztte touting their new AM-FM 24 hour R&B programming called Double WAMO. WAMO-FM had previously been jazz oriented WAZZ. The ad said that it was Pennsylvania's most powerful radio station, and showed pictures of its personalities: Sir Walter 6-9 AM and 11 AM-2 PM; Bill Powell 9-11 AM and 2-5 PM; Porky Chedwick 5-9 PM; Sunny Jim Kelsey 10 PM-1 AM; Charles Gordon news at :55; and Alexander Martin with the show "Sweet Chariot".
