Subject: 50 Years Ago In Pittsburgh TV

Having arrived from New York, Marie Torre made her Pittsburgh tv debut as a co-anchor with Bill Burns on the Channel 2 Noon News on August 20, 1962. She was the first female news anchor in Pittsburgh. In addition to being a news anchor, she would continue for the next 15 years as a talk show host and host of public affair shows and specials. I consider her to be one of the most professional tv journalists in Pittsburgh, male or female. She had an unflappable presence that was evident whether she was reporting a hard news story or making light conversation. Landing her from New York must have been a major coup for KDKA. In 1977, she returned to her native New York.
