Well, I'm not (and never was) a fan of elevator music, but hopefully this is a tidbit that might help. Back in the '70s, I recall three FM stations doing elevator music: WSHH (99.7), KDKA-FM (92.9), WJOI (formerly WKOI, around 1974ish). So, in 1977 the school I went to encouraged car pooling, and the other friend's mother that we car pooled with shared a preference for WSHH, and I asked her if she would ever listen to the other two stations at that time doing elevator music, to which she replied "No" because WSHH was the only one that actually told the listener what songs were played.
