You called it on the network ratings. As longs as NBC's ratings were bad, WIIC's ratings would be bad. When a housewife tuned in the soaps on CBS, she wouldn't change the channel when it came time for the news.

I also recall more than a few people I knew in various areas who had reception problems with channel 11.

The lack of a radio station was probably a total non-issue though. While most people knew the call letters for the TV stations, they paid more attention to the number on the dial when they tuned it in. Your TV tuner dial said "Channel 2", not "KDKA".
