One possible reason for Channel 11's problems early on was management's unability to grasp the weight Pittsburgh viewers put on loyalty and stability. The belief was that if something didn't work in three months, drop it and move on. Viewers never knew from week-to-week what they were going to see. When I worked there as the weekend anchor in the mid-60's, we had three different news sets in six months, and one was repainted three times. The shows they stuck with, including "Chiller Theater" and "Studio Wrestling," grew to be very popular, but there were many failures, including the "Give It A Whirl" gameshow, and confused viewers went to 2 or 4. In the past 15 years or so, 11 has been fairly stable in its lineup and staffing, and it seems to have helped, but there are still instances of change-for-change-sake.
