While there is no doubt the late Jack Purcell hosted a teen show on TV (wonder what channel?) the irony is unreal. I mean, he played big band stuff for adult society functions and other high end social events and yes, a few proms. We were well into the rock era by then. I never saw the show but imagine what the Senior Purcell playing "rock" was like: old big-band boogie woogie stuff from the 40's that came off like the "Your Hit Parade" cast doing "Heartbreak Hotel" and messing it up (the video survives). Purcell was no more in touch with the teen music market than Lawrence Welk, so it's no wonder it didn't last. And it's no surprise the title would be from a Pat Boone song. Some actually considered him "rock and roll."

Clark Race and TL had a way better handle on the local TV dance party market, but Chilly Billy gave "Six O' Clock Hop," like all else he's hosted, his best--a total pro. I DO wonder why Porky didn't get a chance at TV...bet there are stories there!
