I think you're correct on all counts. When Gimbels went out of business (mid-'80s?) KDKA started using some of the malls and even Station Square for the remotes. Once they went all-talk, the remotes didn't really fit any longer.

Bogut did his show for Make a Wish from the window at Saks downtown. They also set up in the lobby of the William Penn Hotel for fund raisers.
