Awesome pic this week on the Channel 53 (sans Fox for about another decade) billboard promoting their weekend programs. I’d seem to remember things like this cruising Bigelow Blvd.

Does anybody know who the people are on the billboard?
I seem recognize Jack Wheeler toward the left side of the pic. I’m guessing his program “Tonight in Pittsburgh,” was somewhere coming off the heels of having been fired at KDKA radio (which led to the Perry Marshall/Bob Logue era), plus his stint at WEEP-AM.

As far as listings are concerned, a blogger named Buddy Kaye uses TV Guide’ s Pittsburgh edition from Sunday July 4, 1976 (hence all the Bicentennial celebrations) at http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=41472.0;wap2 shows in the WPGH 53 section that “Italy Today,” “Look… Here’s Education,” and “Body N’ Things,” air consecutively for 90 minutes, between Noon and 1:30 PM.

The listings for Saturday July 3, 1976 (also by Buddy Kaye using TV Guide’s Pittsburgh edition) at http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=41402.0;wap2 shows in the WPGH section that “Polka Party,” ran Saturday nights from 8 tom 8:30, while Jack Wheeler’s program ran from 9 to 10.

Also, notice the number of network pre-empts that Channel 53 picked up from 2, 4 and 11.

One last question: Channel 53 struggled big-time just about this era; they must’ve been O-K for advertising, although were any of these shows considered more in the category of public affairs?
