Columbia and Cornell are playing a very entertaining game with lots of big plays and excruciating turnovers. Both teams have fumbled away the ball on the other team's one-yard line.

Cornell tied it up at 21 all with 1:32 left in the first half, but Columbia drove to the Cornell 27 and Oren Milstein kicked a 44 yard field goal with :04 left in the half. We had 1st and 10 at the Cornell 17 but Hill was sacked for a ten yard loss. Thank goodness for Milstein.

Cornell completes a long drive with a TD. Impressive drive against a good Columbia defense.

Cornell quickly goes 80 yards for a TD. On the ensuing Columbia possession, Hill's long pass is intercepted at the Cornell 10 yard line. Four minutes to play.

Columbia holds Cornell to a three and out--finally--and takes a fair catch on the 50 with Cornell's punt. Columbia drives to the Cornell one, then takes a 10 yard holding penalty! Hill throws a TD pass to Ronald Smith from the 11 yard line. Milstein kicks the extra point. 1:58 to play.

Cornell recovers the onside kick and runs out the clock with three rushes for minus one yard each.

Total yardage: Columbia 562 Cornell 559
First downs: Columbia 26 Cornell 23
Turnovers: Columbia 3 Cornell 2

Entertaining but frustrating.

I like how Columbia is showing some life after a dismal showing in several games this season. That could be because Cornell is vulnerable at this point in the season but some good steps towards better days nonetheless. Possibly even a win vs Brown next week.

A win??? Brown will kill us.
This was another game that we handed up on a platter. First play from scrimmage we toss a pass to a defender 5 yards from the closest CU receiver. Not tipped, just a totally stupid toss. 2 picks and a fumble all leading directly to TDs. That's your game.
Brown beat Dartmouth away by the same margin we beat them at home. Our guys still haven't learned how to win. We are 2-8 this year.

It's coming in bits and pieces. The Lions need a legitimate QB and the OL is underperforming. They need a steady run game but the do have more ability than they did earlier in the season.

I am not impressed with Brown at all. They are traditionally inconsistent so they can drop any game, anywhere to anybody.

My take, after being at the game...CU needs a stud receiver. A 6'5 guy they can go to when needed. 13 is good, but short. 24 can be good, but needs to learn to catch with his hands. Too many catches bouncing off his pads.

QB play, as discussed at length here is inconsistent. Another area that needs to improve.

On the defensive side, LB play was good...but all seniors. Concerned about next year and who is available to backfill. Secondary was suspect, and got beat on a lot of long balls. That, and too many third downs given up on come backs.

Bottom line: AB needs better skill players, and should get them in the game early in their career to build for the future.

I know I sound like a broken record and agree we have an excellent QB in Dalton Banks along with a strong receiving corp, but Chris Walker's 178 rushing yards really helped the Big Red move the ball and give our defense a rest. In addition, fullback Mac Pope along with the offensive line opened up some big holes. Unlike in previous years, the coaches have recruited four very good running backs and it's great to see them run the ball. Go Big Red!!!

On another note, Saturday was like a home game for Cornell as we had a nice crowd on the visitor side along with the Big Red band for entertainment.

First, congrats to Cornell for pulling this one out. Some very impressive play by the Big Red.

Columbia's usually stout defense had an off day. On the other hand, Columbia's offense put up 560 yards, so the Lions need to regain their D and keep last Saturday's O.

Beyond that, a couple of facts about Columbia's rebuild. ALL FIVE of the Lion TDs were scored by first-years who are, of course, members of Al Bagnoli's first recruiting class. And those first-year TDs were balanced, i.e., they were both on the ground and in the air. Columbia now has at least four solid receivers, two of whom are only first-years and are burning in impressively. Hill, Mornhinweg, Petlansky, Dame, other QBs can now really look forward to having capable and quick receivers.
