He was slightly over .500 in three seasons.

You don't get fired for that in the Ivy.

Hate to keep repeating this. Jack was the one of Yale's most successful coaches and my previous posts show he has a record better than most current Ivy coaches. If Reno beats Harvard and stays as coach it will show how heavily weighted the "beat Harvard" is in Yale's football team slogan "beat Harvard and win the Ivy championship." Siedlecki beat Harvard 4 times including three in a row beginning his second season. His record was 8-2, 9-1, 6-4 his last three seasons. Reno is 8-2, 6-4 and either 2-8 or 3-7 and no wins against Harvard in his first four years as HC.

Reno is a disaster. He has not put a competitive defense on the field in 5 years. What makes you think in year 6 that is happening. What makes you think Joe Conlin can put a functioning offense on the field. He is a worthless and pathetic coach that hit the lottery with Varga. They are in a tailspin and headed face first off a bridge. The players have quit.

Read more carefully I'm not defending Reno - rather I am trying to show if there is some correlation between what criteria Beckett used in the past to fire an HC (Siedlecki) and what he might use now; more relevant to this Saturday, how much of his decision rests on "The Game" as compared with the rest of Reno's record. Here's my take - if Reno beats Harvard and Beckett keeps him on as HC then it was unfair for him to have fired Jack. If Yale loses to Harvard and Beckett keeps Reno on then it was even more unfair to have fired Jack.

The problem with Jack was, that 8-2 should have been 9-1 with an outright championship.

The 9-1 included a complete meltdown in the biggest game of his tenure.

I said the same thing about him that I did about Cozza. Jack LOST more games he should have won as opposed to winning games he should have lost.

Believe me I was not happy with that 8-2 season either and of course there were games that in retrospect might have been won if he had prepared better, made better adjustments at halftime, called a different play etc. but how many current Ivy coaches (I provided the records on a previous thread) have had a better record besides the fellow over in Cambridge.
My main reason for focusing on Jack's record is the need to inject reality into the expectations of finding a coach that will do remarkably better than Jack since presumably that was Beckett's intent when he fired him. Well he hasn't found one yet and how optimistic can we be that will happen unless Yale admins are willing to liberate themselves from the Ivy formula for mediocrity beginning with coaching salaries. It all starts from there and to think otherwise is only going to lead to the same results. Why would a gifted hc coach with a proven track record come to Yale without the financial draw. So that leaves us with the search for assistant coaches that might become a gifted
hc - "deja vu all over again" and most likely that's where Yale will be after Saturday's game.

Unlike Teevens, he hasn't won a championship recently and/or doesn't have the faithful counting the days until next season.

Unlike Bagnoli, he isn't in year 2 taking over a historically bad program.

Unlike Estes, he doesn't have a bunch of winning seasons on his resume.

Unlike Archer, he hasn't shown noticeable improvement in 2016.

So...

?

2014 - 8-2
2015 - 6-4

Yale "usually" does not fire a coach for a losing season after two winning ones unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Then he needs to find another Morgan Roberts and Tyler Varga to disguise everything else that is ineffective in the program.

I'm not saying they should keep him, I'm saying the odds are that they will keep him.
