In reply to: holtsledge 's message, "Post Season awards" on 10:42:04 11/21/16 Mon

Where do you guys think Princeton's Kurt Holuba fit in.
No one was able to block him all year.

I agree with holtsledge both on his picks and the "what the hell do I know" comment (as it applies to me, at least). I don't see how they don't give Lovett the offensive award given that Princeton won the title and had the highest scoring offense in the league by a wide margin and he broke the Tiger's all-time single-season record for TDs. Holuba was a beast but so was Orimolade, I'm hoping Kurt takes home that prize next year.

If you want to make the case for Lovett over Watson, saying that Princeton "won the title" won't get you very far.

Apologies... I should have added that in head-to-head competition Princeton beat Penn 28-0, with Lovett out-gaining Watson and accounting for half of those points.

I have nothing but praise for Watson, he is an outstanding player and had a great year, however Lovett was the most productive member of the best offensive team in the league.

My rudimentary calculations for total season yardage:

Watson: 1288 yards receiving and rushing
Lovett: 1228 yards rushing, throwing and receiving

My vote is still Watson

According to the respective school websites, it's the reverse order:

Lovett 1259 (rushing 442, passing 582, receiving 235), plus 21 TDs. http://princeton_ftp.sidearmsports.com/statistics/fb/2016/TEAMCUME.HTM

Watson 1248 (rushing 133, receiving 1115), plus 8 TDs. https://penn-platform-api-prod-origin.silverchalice.co/v3/files/5831b7bde4b0646ac215e208

Lovett also won 4 weekly league Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week award, tied for the third-most single-season weekly honors in Ivy League history.

Watson has significant honors, including Walter Payton Award (FCS OPOY) finalist and last year runner-up for OPOY.

Neither one would be a surprise winner.

Here is one more considerstion in Lovett's favor: his 20 rushing touchdowns this season are the fourth-most in Ivy League history after Ed Marinaro (24, Cornell, 1971), Mike McLeod (23, Yale, 2007), and Tyler Varga (22, Yale, 2014), each of whom was POY. I can't confirm the facts but I'm pretty sure none of those players also passed for 10 TDs.

Watson is the best WR in the league and is a dynamic player but Lovett had a truly historic season this year.

Sparman,

Don't forget those 31 yards Lovett lost on the ground

I looked at the wrong column. Would you believe I was an English major?
