Try three Ivy titles as HC at Dartmouth

Joe Yukica's last year was 1986 when he finished 4th in the Ivy League with a 3-3-1 record. Teevens took over in 1987 and was 2-8 in his first year.

Yukicka won 3 Ivy championships in his 8 years ar Dartmouth. Teevens has won 3 Ivy championships in his 17 years at Dartmouth. Two his first stint (1987-1991) and one in his second stint (2005-2016).

Teevens went .500, which Yukica hadn't done in the previous five seasons.

That being said, Yukica was screwed over by the admissions department at the time. I have a lot of sympathy for him.

Yukicka's 1982 team tied for the Ivy championship with a 5-2 record and was 5-5 overall. Yukica was a good man and a good coach. When he left Boston College for Dartmouth he was the winningest coach in B.C. history (68-37 or something like that).

Teevens was 2-8 in 1987 and thereafter 5-5, 5-5, 7-2-1 and 7-2-1 before leaving for Tulane in 1991.

Teevens stunk up the gym at Tulane (11-45) and Stanford (10-23) and has now spent 12 years at Dartmouth without beating Harvard, presenting Dartmouth with its first winless season since the 19th century in 2008 and going from first to last in the Ivies in one year.

:)

I also can't get why you pretend OOC games don't exist. Had Yukica gone 6-3-1 in 1986 rather than 3-6-1, he might have been retained (the lawsuit notwithstanding). I seriously doubt anyone in 1986 cared that we took fourth in the league after six consecutive nonwinning seasons.

No argument that he was a good man and a good coach. Like John Lyons, he had the rug pulled out from under him by the admissions department.

Just like Teevens at Stanford.

You're right about the admissions department. John Lyons didn't suddenly become a lousy coach after 1996. He got the rawest of deals. Even worse than Yukica. The new admissions dean is from D-III. D-III and we'll see.

Is there a reason why you (correctly, IMHO) recognize the extenuating circumstances for Yukica's and Lyons' struggles at Dartmouth, but insist Teevens was completely responsible for his record at Stanford?

I mean, it's been pointed out repeatedly that the Stanford admissions director was anti-athletics during his tenure.
