Week 13 Update: Crimson in the NFL

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. At the end of week 13, the Harvard football team has nine former players on NFL active rosters and one on the practice squads. Check out an update of the Crimson standouts through Dec. 4.

Cameron Brate '14
6-5 | 235 | TE
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cameron Brate enters his third NFL season after a solid 2015 season. This year, Brate has started 10 of 13 games, tallying six touchdowns and 528 yards on 47 receptions. While at Harvard, Brate was a unanimous selection to the All-Ivy League first team, as well as a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. He finished his senior campaign with 25 receptions for 403 yards with five scores.

Ben Braunecker '16
6-4 | 255 | TE
Chicago Bears
Ben Braunecker led Harvard with 48 receptions for 850 yards and eight TDs during the 2015 season, landing on several All-America first teams. The Chicago Bears signed Braunecker as an undrafted free agent after he was one of the top performers at the NFL Combine. In his first NFL season, Braunecker tallied one solo tackle against the Detroit Lions Oct. 2, one 8-yd reception against Minnesota Oct. 31, and one 14-yd reception against the Tennessee Titans. A native of Ferdinand, Indiana, Braunecker concluded his Crimson career with 68 career receptions for 1,168 yards and 10 scores.

Desmond Bryant '09

Cleveland Browns
Desmond Bryant enters his eighth season in the NFL and fourth with the Cleveland Browns in 2016. On injured reserve, Bryant is expected to miss the entire season to recover from a torn pec. Last season with the Browns, Bryant started 14 games, making 33 tackles, including a team-best six sacks and one forced fumble. While with the Crimson, Bryant appeared in 32 games, recording 66 career tackles and 13.5 sacks. A second team All-Ivy League selection as a senior, Bryant recorded 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 10 games as an economics concentrator.

Nick Easton '15

Minnesota Vikings
In his second NFL season, Nick Easton started camp with the Minnesota Vikings in July. Since the beginning of the NFL season, Easton has appeared in the past seven games, including a 30-24 victory over Arizona and former teammate Cole Toner. An AP FCS All-America third team selection, Easton was originally signed by the Baltimore Ravens in May of 2015. As a senior, Easton was part of an offensive line that helped the Crimson to a perfect 10-0 record and an Ivy League championship title.

Anthony Fabiano '16

Cleveland Browns
Anthony Fabiano was added to the Cleveland Browns active roster from the practice squad Dec. 5. Originally signing with the Baltimore Ravens, Fabiano saw action in 32 games with Harvard. Named to the Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List, Fabiano was a first-team All-Ivy League selection, helping the Crimson to its third-straight Ivy League championship title in 2015.

Ryan Fitzpatrick '05

New York Jets
Ryan Fitzpatrick re-signed with the New York Jets in August after setting a franchise record with 31 touchdown passes last season. Fitzpatrick has started in 10 of 11 games this season, posting 195 completions on 342 attempts. He has totaled 2,333 yards this season. In 2015, he led the Jets to their best offensive season since 1998, starting in 16 games and throwing at a 59.6 percent clip. Over his 11-year NFL career, Fitzpatrick has started 105 games, completing passes at a 60.1 percent rate and registering 154 touchdowns. At Harvard, the Asa S. Bushnell Cup winner accumulated 1,986 yards with 13 touchdowns as a senior, leading the Crimson to a perfect 10-0 record in 2004.

Kyle Juszczyk '13

Baltimore Ravens
Kyle Juszczyk was selected in the fourth round (130th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft by the then-defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. In 2016, Juszczyk has started in five games and appeared in all 12. The fullback has tallied 194 receiving yards on 27 catches, averaging 7.2 yards per catch. In 2014, Juszczyk saw action in all 16 games (14 starts) and netted 19 receptions for 182 yards and one touchdown. Last season, the Medina, Ohio product started 11 games and caught 41 passes for 321 yards and four scores. While at Harvard, Juszczyk earned numerous first-team All-American honors after posting 52 receptions for 706 receiving yards (13.6 avg.) and eight TDs, tied for the second-highest total in a single season in Harvard history.

Tyler Ott '14

Cincinnati Bengals
Long snapper Tyler Ott was signed to the practice squad for the Cincinnati Bengals on Nov. 22, 2016 and was quickly elevated to the active roster. Ott has seen action in two games this season, including a 32-14 win over Philadelphia. Ott signed with the New York Giants on Dec. 31, 2015 and snapped for the Giants in their 2015 regular season finale against the Eagles. A Senior Bowl participant, Ott finished his senior season with 15 catches for 188 yards and four touchdowns three of those against Princeton for which he was named National Tight End of the Week by College Football Performance Awards. Ott long snapped for the Crimson for all four years.

Adam Redmond '16
6-6 | 290 | OL
Indianapolis Colts
An All-Ivy League first team selection in 2015, Adam Redmond signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts on May 2, 2016 and is currently on the practice squad. The co-Recipient of Harvard's William Paine LaCroix Trophy and a CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honoree, Redmond helped the Crimson to three-straight Ivy League titles during his career.

Cole Toner '16
6-5 | 300 | OL
Arizona Cardinals
An All-Ivy League selection in 2014 and 2015, Cole Toner was drafted by the Cardinals in the fifth round, the 170th selection overall. Toner has not yet seen action in 2016 season. Toner played tackle at Harvard, but has worked at guard in the NFL. A semifinalist for the 2015 National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy (the academic Heisman), Toner helped the Crimson to three-straight Ivy League titles during his career.

I think it's a tossup up for best player between Brate and "Jurassic Park"' although "Gentle" Ben is coming on. Fitz had his day and probably will make more then the rest of them combined during his career. But it does show you how good H's OL has been in the last few yrs. It will be curious to see if any of them become long term starters, my money is on "Ink"

While I think that Dartmouth's OL has performed well in recent years, I think its been a few years since we had a OL recruit that had an offer outside of the Ivy, PL, PFL, or NEC.

The current list of recruits doesn't seem to break that mold. But hopefully they will develop as their predecessors did.
