Great article, and best of luck to Mr. Grinde.

Yale does a fantastic job of making freshmen feel welcome and part of a family. I had never visited the state of Connecticut until the day before my first day at Yale, but the residential college system was something very special and I quickly made lots of friends. I do hope he decides to come back, whether for football or not.

But one question: Do we actually do only two hours of lifting a week? Seems abnormally low. Or are athletes expected to weight train in their own free time?

To be certain, men on the football team have absolutely no free-time whatsoever. This is a big part of why some players love for the game is smothered.
Regarding the conditioning program - it truly is bad. Many players have complained (becoming weaker/slower/heavier). Players are not permitted to pursue their own work-out's - they are expected to "trust the system".

Yale's former captain, Darious Manora, has a much different opinion on the new strength and conditioning program. Furthermore, Yale's Lacrosse team has had proven success with it.
