To paraphrase a famous coach: How many games did 24/7 win last year?

There's no way a guy with offers from Ivies, Army, and Georgetown should get three stars.

No more need to use these amateurish, unqualified ratings from allegedly professional services when we have at our disposal the Official GG DRAM-HT (Dartmouth Recruits Are More Highly Touted) System.

We await your in depth assessment of each team's recruits based on your expert observation.

I'm sure it will prove more prescient than your 2016 Dartmouth pre-season pronouncement.

He does have a point. I think the rating services are interesting, but some of the better players coming into the league aren't listed on these services. Some are listed, but unranked. That doesn't mean they aren't better prospects than 2** recruits. 2** generally is the lowest ranking. It means you went to a camp and someone who does this crap noticed you or a player was strongly promoted by a coach or a parent.

I think the best measure is other offers, which for some Ivy recruits are not earuits are noed. silyter cerns.

I also think ALL Area and All State team selections are not irrelevant, although I agree they can be political and are often a measure more of success on the hs level rather than potential as a college player.

FBS offers and lots of FCS offers (often from non eastern schools we don't think much about but likely could kick our butts under most circumstances) are the best indicators, but they are an imperfect predictor of success as well.

The coaching staffs watch a lot of film and talk to a lot of people. They have more information to make their judgement calls than any of us. Obviously some do it better than others.

"earuits are noed. silyter cerns." = not easily discerned

counting the number of touts just because it is so silly and meaningless

actually I would love to see which bands the recruits fall into but that will never happen.

The problem (this one, anyway) I have with GG isn't that the 24/7 ratings system is perfect, I know it and others are not, it's his insistence on re-calibrating everything (game outcomes, recruiting, history, etc.) according to his personal preferences that have no objective basis. If he had seen the player in question, or knows how his rating was obtained, that might be different (although I think that he would probably still rate Dartmouth recruits higher, just ... because).

And I happen to like the "earuits are noed. silyter cerns" method, myself. I doubt Holtsie would dispute its fundamental logic.

Why not wait for me to make a point that you actually disagree with?

I've said repeatedly and Asia apparently agrees) that offers from other school are the best indicator of which guys should be considered the proverbial "highly touted" recruits.

And even that isn't foolproof. Orimolade didn't get any offers coming out of high school. His career for Dartmouth was pretty good. Miles Smith was only offered from Bucknell and Dartmouth. He's doing fine, too. I'm sure there are plenty of other examples.

I have found 20 commits announced on Twitter for Princeton (but I have not added up their stars ...)

Actually, Bill, who was a little tipsy at the after party and in a garrulous mood, was complaining how his true original lines were mangled by Eddie De Vere.

I think we're missing the point why these recruiting sites started. To make money. If you want Ivy kids evaluated then start paying for the subscription like numerous Alabama, Texas, and Florida alumni. Also, when kids are too highly touted don't be surprised if Mom and Dad bought a star on 247. There are tons of excellent D1AA players with no stars, but spending time fairly evaluating these guy throughout the entire recruiting process does not help the bottom line.

Agree with you in general but I think the offers reported on Twitter are fairly reliable. There are some on this board who confuse interest with offers and often the interest is primarily one way and not all that serious.

The sites do a good job with 4 and 5 star recruits but as you and others have mentioned, the sites don't exist to support Ivy League fan interest.

I do think FBS offers are the best indicator of "potential" and sites like 247 often don't list the best kids we recruit or fail to rank them.

The sites don't generate revenue or clicks from our small group. We are not their target subscribing audience.

I doubt highly that anyone can pay for a Star. However, I know for a fact its parents and players that report "offers". And that they are not verified. Many play the social media hype game and inflate their rankings. Interest is not an offer. A letter is not an offer. And there are players that commit early, and colleges will not "offer" unless they have a shot of getting the player. If the player is loyal and not playing the game, they will not receive the offers that another "game" playing player will receive. HYPE

Id look at strength of conference, stats (which also isn't always verified) Film

'Able Beach' has it exactly right ! Recruiting Services are in the $$ business for themselves, hs coaches, camps, etc. They will market genuine 4/5 star athletes, they know will be signed for no subscription charge, just to pump their listings. It's common to find average or marginal athletes hyped with offers, unofficial visits, manufactured data. Depending on the service, I've heard a third star can be had for around $300-$500. A way to rank recruiting classes might be to only count the 4/5 star athletes but even that is 'dreamers expectation'.

Recruiting services do miss players especially those of the 2 and 3 star variety. My son was fortunate enough to have a lot of interest this year including a number of FBS offers and is not even listed on 247. Scout and Rivals administrators asked my son to send them his updated offers so they could update his profile. I would assume with this self reporting a lot of the offer lists on the sites are not entirely accurate as well. A couple of my son's team mates are also not listed and have multiple FBS and FCS offers as well. Twitter has been the best tool for me in keeping updated on my son current and future classmates.
