And if the Princeton men wins their first NCAA game in 20 years next week, they will be insisting that the Palestra be the permanent home of the Ivy tournament because it makes them battle-tested.

No, if they go to the NCAAs they will be happy to play at the Palestra because it will be a virtual home game, unless their opppnent is a Philly team.

But we're not there yet.

Another excellent game.

The Ivy brass has to be thrilled with that way things have played out thus far...

Agree Go Green. A very exciting afternoon of Ivy League basketbal to showcase the quality of play in the league. This is the way to build fan base.

If Yale beats Princeton tomorrow will we see two Ivy League teams receive bids to the NCAA tournament? I'm hoping we get a chance to find out.

Agree with GG, today's games were a great national showcase for Ivy basketball. The Palestra is a great venue, but consideration should be given to awarding the regular season champ home court. What are the downsides? Smaller sites like Harvard, Yale or Columbia would detract somewhat from the atmosphere, but who cares, there should be a reward for regular season excellence.

1) Seeding

2) Automatic bid to the NIT to the regular season champ.

If people don't think that's enough reward, they should say so. But phrasing the question as if no reward exists strikes me as disingenuous.

It's not disingenous in the least.

It looks like a big deal to you because Dartmouth has never sniffed the tournament in modern memory and any post-season play would be a thrill.

(Holtsledge, why am I drawn into this crap?)

Sparman (unlike others) actually adds substantive discussion to the board.

The auto-bid to the NIT speaks for itself. Princeton's season was going to continue no matter what the results were this weekend. The others-- probably not.

As for seeding, in theory, the #1 seed should have an easier time with the #4 seed than the #2 & #3 seeds have with each other. Indeed, I don't think Princeton played particularly welly today. Harvard or Yale might have knocked them off. But they played a weak Penn team and survived to fight another day.

I'm sure Henderson told his team afterwards that they got to do a lot better if they hope to win another game. We will find out whether the Tigers got the message.

So please--let's end the talk that there's "no reward" for winning the regular season. Saying that the regular season champ needs more reward is another story...

NCAA is not equal to NIT. At least, not for Princeton, and probably for Penn, Harvard and Yale.

I'm out.

That there's not ENOUGH reward for winning the regular season.

Stop arguing that there's NO reward for winning the regular season.

This is NOT a difficult concept.

Sure, NIT is not NCAA. But NIT is not nothing.

Agree but the problem is that the Palestra is far and away the best Ivy site for hoops (sorry Jadwin).

There's nothing immoral about a neutral site -- especially in a more geographically central location -- NYC, Hartford, whatever. That's my preference.

If it's at any Ivy arena, it should only be the #1 seed. Penn women playing at home tomorrow is earned, Tiger men should be at Jadwin.

Good article

I think the Ivies, thanks to Harvard's leadership (read desire to be excellent in basketball) will be an NCAA 2 bid league in 3 years.

Feinstein is a true treasure. He and John McPhee should get a lot of credit for the overall image of the league (with all deference to Alex Wolff and others).
