This will again be an interesting season. How good I'm not sure, but certainly better than last year's young team. QB will be an interesting position Linta coming in for injured Senior Kyle Moreno did a creditable job and when he faltered in the Columbia game Soph. Duncan came in and gave the team a spark with his running and passing. Then there is Moreno,is he eligible and interested in returning for another year?
Also, at running back we have a number of capable candidates all of whom seem to have trouble holding onto the football. Harriott's enthusiasm and skill make him key to the running game. Finally, there is Jake Hall, a once promising back who has been injured his entire career. Is he capable and does he still have the desire?

Yes interesting. Sep 23 Harvard game, Sep 30 RI game and Nov 10 Fenway game v Dartmouth will likely be highlights. If there is good weather, the Fenway game could break some attendance records for Brown ….seems like the type of event Brown and Dartmouth alumni and students would come out for…

D-line will be a force. Dewey Jarvis seems to have blessed the Bears with his "4.5" graduation timing gift and is listed on the 2017 roster (does anyone know if that is certain?). If so, joining Jarvis will be Banfield, Varner and Heocht, making the D-Line quite a force in the Ivies. These guys will challenge any running game. D-backs lost some guys but Dovi and Coughlin will be strong. LBs return Isaiah Thompkins but will have some shoes to fill given departure of Twyman and Tylki

On offense...QB is a question as per tradition….Moreno not listed on 2017 roster. Duncan indeed provided a new look with his speed vs Columbia- could be a force. But most likely nod will be to Linta, at least to start with. The O-line had a lot of seniors in 2016. Montano started at center and Okwara saw a lot of playing time. If Winders is fully recovered he will also help- he was injured as a starter in game 1 last year. A lot to be filled on the RB and receiver side save Harriett – the ‘real deal’ and a likely an all-league pick this season. Other RBs Broome and Moodie have experience and had some v good games. Agree re Jake Hall. Of starting receivers, TE Casey, who had a good 2016, returns, but senior core of Jette, Swanky and Doles needs to be replaced. Prall, Whitney and Jackson were big contributors in 2016 and should fill in ably.

Also a good recruiting class- should contribute early.

Thanks BBF for the much more knowledgeable and thorough analysis. Very interesting. How does one gain access to 2017 roster? Mr insider?

BBF , You are rapidly becoming my go to guy. Don't want to overstay my welcome, but could you give my highlights on the incoming class. Are we still on that *** QB from TX?

Well...Brown needs a lot better than me as a go-to guy! I do not know much on recruits. There was a thread on this a few months ago but I can not find it. Texas QB Jonke seems like the real deal- he still appears as 'committed' per the Feb 1 tweet on the Brown Twitter page-

https://twitter.com/BrownUFootball

There is a coaches event on April 25 at Fenway incl. Estes, Teevens, Edsall (UC), Whipple (MA), Addazio (BC), Harasmiyak (ME). If the press is invited, they may talk about recruits then. It seems to be mainly a fundraiser though:

This year's freshmen have instilled an excitement and resolve into the program not seen in many years....last year's fiasco losses won't be repeated in 2017...some surprising developments at the QB position this spring.....hope Hall finally fulfills his promise as a rb recruit 4 years ago - we'll see if his character comes through...solid class coming in September...upswing in motion at Brown that will be evident this season...some linebacking issues need to be resolved but all other positions are accounted for...kicker good from 50 all spring...roster of some 120 this fall...lots spending the summer in Prov.....top 3 League placement (at least) expected...

Counsellor, is that statement based on first hand observations or is it just enthusiasm surrounding new blood in the program? It is not uncommon for a good freshmen class to inject a sense of optimism into a program. Keeping that optimism is another matter.

First - hand information..not generic....not the same with the previous frosh classes...apparent in the weight room, spring practices, leadership roles taken, etc. Different culture being established together with the new digs being constructed...feeling is that class in-coming this August will mesh well with the current group...coaching staff senses an upswell...more skill players in these two classes than of late..the Fenway Park game on Nov 10 is serving as a motivation week-in and week-out...last year was a big-time downer that all connected with the program have vowed to never repeat...

Having a consistently strong Brown program is good for the league. I am hoping Columbia can reach that level where they manage to start beating the better teams.

The Lions are well on their way with the institutional supports installed....seem to be learning to win....still lapses that turn wins into losses ....but overall competitive game in and game out ...the biggest leap has occurred...

Jarvis is confirmed to return for a 5th year.

Defensive line is the strength of an improved defense for next year. Believe Kutschke is back for a 5th year as well.

QB is competitive. Don't think Moreno will be back. Had a very serious concussion last year.

OL is a current question mark but lots of young talent there.

Current freshman class is deep. Incoming class is also solid.

If offense can score some points, it could be a successful season.
