I think the Ivy League system of academic excellence and financial aide based on need worked well for many years, but not so much any more. Today the league is vastly tilted to the high endowment schools and recruiting has become very difficult for the non-HYP schools. It's too bad as it was once a great collegiate sports conference, but kind of sucks now. I still enjoy following Big Red athletics, but being in the bottom half of the league every year is not a lot of fun and our new president Martha Pollack doesn't exactly look like much of a sports fan. Too much time in front of the computer screen.

Sorry I didn't mean to be critical of our new president Martha Pollack but I heard she is planning to cut another $950k from the athletic budget. More of the same losing year after year.

Told you guys- she was not going to be Athletics friendly! Coaching hires will be sub-par, to go along w/ a sub-par Football facility. Terrible, for the great alumni who toiled on the athletic fields and venues up in Ithaca!A rich tradition has slowly been eroded and the administration sits idly at the helm; more concerned about gender neutral bathrooms and putting more fannies in the seats of classrooms already filled with too many freshman.

The big question how does having bad sports teams impact fund raising? For example last year during Trustee-Council weekend we lost to Princeton 56-7 and the stadium emptied by halftime. Council members are generally some of our biggest donors and many were leaving pissed after that debacle. You would think Cornell would want to have our alums excited not gloomy. Harvard has the largest endowment and they strive to win on and off the field.
