In reply to: Son of Eli 's message, "In total 13 Ivy Leaguers were drafted, 10 pitchers & 3 position" on 08:32:15 06/15/17 Thu

Reason?

Good question. My guess is Ivy League coaches value pitching recruits most and save their lowest AI slots for them.

Moneyball.

College pitchers project better than HS pitchers - better competition, more mature bodies. HS pitchers are a lottery - see Taylor, Brien or Van Poppel, Todd.

College batters don't project as well - too old to start at low minors and adjust to wood bats and pro pitching... by the time they hit the bigs (if they do) they are nearly at peak productivity.

Teams want young hitters and mature pitchers.

I understand the notion, but by this logic college pitchers are therefore playing against relatively uneven or inferior hitters and thus are not fully proven, with HS hitters being judged by performance against uneven pitching competition.

I'm taking this one to the Puzzle Palace and think about it for awhile.
