Subject: Harvard-bound Danilo Djuric helps Canada beat US in World Cup

The U.S. lost for the first time since 2011 at the FIBA U19 World Cup, falling 99-87 to Canada in a semifinal game at Cairo, Egypt. The Americans had won the gold medal in the 2013 and 2015 tournaments, but Canada’s R.J. Barrett — who plays at Montverde Academy in Florida — destroyed a series of defenders and scored 38 points to lead his team to the final against Italy.

The U.S. defense allowed not only Barrett to excel, but also Oregon-bound wing Agu Kigab (14 points) and 6-10 forward Grant Shephard (10 points). Harvard-bound Danilo Djuric hit two fourth-quarter 3-pointers — after Canada broke through U.S. pressure — that were essential to Canada’s victory.

U.S. coach John Calipari tried a number of different defenders against Barrett, but none was effective. Kentucky wing Hamidou Diallo fouled twice early and had limited exposure to Barrett in the first half, then drew the assignment at the start of the second half. But instead of attempting to lock down on defense, Diallo twice got himself involved in wrestling matches with Barrett and picked up two quick fouls, forcing his own removal from the game.

Doesn't sound like something he'd do.
