Hines waits long enough to get an article on his football and political goals and then pulls the plug on football once he receives the publicity. It's times like these that I wish the Ivies could kick recruited athletes out if they willingly choose to quit the sport that they were recruited to play. We are handing an Ivy diploma to an undeserving NC State kid.

Even in this Age of Entitlement, I presume he still has to graduate to get the diploma.

And if football is the only reason he is a deserving candidate, then all these platitudes about ivy athletes being student athletes with varied interests are just as empty as when uttered by the NC State officials. This isn't the Harvard basketball team, after all.

He at least tried to give it a go before breaking his collarbone last year.

"Playing the Game" says that Ivy coaches have stories of helping recruits get through admissions, and then having them never show up for practice once they arrive on campus.

In defense of young Mr McRae, he was not a quitter. He was dismissed from the Harvard roster immediately after his AI score was added to the team average. He had fulfilled his purpose as a recruit.

Observer, how do you know that Camden graduated with a 4.0? Good for him. I'm glad it all worked out for him in the end.

Since he often is a punching bag on this website, it is fair to note that Camden McRae has done quite well for himself. For example, he must have achieved close to a 4.0 since he is in his second year at Stanford Law School. Stanford Law has about 10% acceptance rate for applications and a medium GPA of 3.9. Camden spent this summer working on NFL contracts with IMG, the top sports agency. Maybe he can negotiate the big contract for the next Ivy League athlete who excels in the NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL.

I hope he continues to do well in life and don't fault him for the choices he has made.

I just find it amusing that our resident Harvard Hypocrite, who never played, or had the option to play, a minute of collegiate sports himself, and whose own team is rife with examples of "recruits who aren't really allowed to play, tries to mock someone who actually does have multiple options and chooses to pursue one of them.

Hey Observer and Unknown -ever think Hines started practicing and realized his injured shoulder just wasn't right? Dude had some pretty serious injuries and you sometimes fool yourself that it will be fine. Maybe it wasn't. Perhaps a possibility? On the other hand the timing is certainly a little weird. Hard to say. He sounds like a pretty smooth character, sort of like other members of our fine political establishment. Who knows.

After an excellent freshman year in the ACC, Mr. Hines transferred to Yale as a quite legitimate scholar-athlete. He suffered two serious injuries on the football field at Yale in each of his next two years. He has nothing of which to be ashamed and should not be criticized by those without knowledge of his circumstances.

If something happened to cause such an about-face and make Hines leave the team, people are naturally curious to hear what it was.

I just read the Courant article about Hines. Two theories about his curious withdrawal from the program:

(1) The article says that he plans to attend law school. Is it possible that he wants to maintain an extra year of eligibility to play at, say, Stanford or Michigan? Maybe go back home to play for the Tar Heels or Duke.

(2) He just got married. Women, amirite?

There really are two possibilities:

1) He was jerking the Harford Courant (and the Yale football staff) around and was thinking about hanging it up the entire time or

2) Something happened in the last ten days that warranted his leaving the team.

I'm sure everyone wishes him the best, but more than a few of us probably want to know why he's no longer with the team.

Sounds like he just wants to focus on other things. That tends to happen as guys mature, and set their sights on meaningful pursuits. While I don't know all of his history it is a familiar theme for student athletes to "retire" instead of continuing to let their body take a beating in football.

The difference between successful FBS transfers like Witt and Roberts compared to Hines is that the former were riding the bench before transferring while Hines was a starter. If a starter from a Power 5 FBS program wants to transfer to the Ivy League it's safe to say his commitment to and passion for football is waning.

Yes, there are a ton of additional examples, such as Patrick Witt QB from Nebraska to Yale and Colton Moskal LB Syracuse to Penn. Both Witt and Moskal became Second-Team All-Ivy players.

Gavin Hoffman does appear to have started for Northwestern, based on Internet-available stats.

Did you know that bulldogs rank 77th out of 79 breeds in intelligence?

The English Bulldog is good for apartment life. They are very inactive indoors and will do okay without a yard. This breed is an indoor dog. Useful characteristics in the Home of the Hamburger, where the outside can be unsafe, even for dogs. Bulldogs do best in temperate climates as the breed can chill easily in cold weather and have trouble cooling off in very hot weather.

Moderate Maintenance is required: Regular cleaning of the face and ears will keep the Bulldog healthy and looking good. Having handy pet wipes at the ready will make this daily process a breeze. Their nails should be trimmed regularly with a nail clipper or grinder to avoid overgrowth and cracking. Their ears should be checked regularly to avoid a buildup of wax and debris which can result in an infection. Skin fold should be cleaned regularly to avoid infection. Teeth should be brushed regularly.

Moderate Shedding: Expect this dog to shed regularly. Be prepared to vacuum often. Brushing will reduce shedding as well as make the coat softer and cleaner.

Difficult Training due to limited intelligence: Training is difficult, which might not be suitable for a first time dog owner. Patience and perseverance are required to adequately train it. Professional obedience schools can also be helpful.

Poor O has the intellectual horsepower of an Amaker starter. The closest he came to an Ivy League degree was a check from the Harvard House of Pizza. And yes, he does enjoy skulking through other school's writings just as he scampers away when it drizzles. The peeping O is an inspiration to us all.
