He did a fantastic job at Yale. Mission accomplished! Best wishes to Mr. Beckett.

It helps Reno in that no matter how bad he does this year he won't be fired. Beckett won't make that decision as a lame duck, which means Reno is guaranteed two more years. However, If he doesn't have an overall winning record after after 7 years I think he' gone.

A winning record or an Ivy championship after 7 years will be necessary for Reno to save his job after 2018. If he can't show either after 7 seasons I don't know why any new AD wouldn't want to bring in their own guy for a fresh start.

Great man who did many great things for Yale athletics, finding his replacement will not be an easy task. It will be a good time to review Reno's future. Despite stellar recruiting, he currently has among the worst winning percentages in Yale history.

Tom Beckett did many great things for Yale sports, some in the teeth of anti sports gale fomented by Rick Levin. I think he underestimated how tough the climb back to Ivy FB dominance would be, especially with Harvard firing on all cylinders (something that never happened during Yovicsin-Restic era).

To put Reno record in perspective, remember that Cozza went 4-5 in 1971, with a team that was picked for top echelon and that had two future NFL'ers, one a Pro Bowl pick. Many cries for Cozza's head after that one, but run of 3 Ivy crowns in '67-69 saved him. AND, by the way, in ten years after '71 disappointment, Yale beat H 7 times and won 6 Ivy crowns!

The focus of an athletic program is the football team. Yale has a wonderful tradition that seems to have taken a back seat under Reno. There is no player development and his winning years were with a once-in-a-lifetime player, Tyler Varga. He should have been fired last year. Anyone can recruit players to Yale. We need a coach who can teach and develop players. Middle of the Ivy pack until there is a coaching change. Perhaps Beckett can do everyone a favor and make this his priority before he leaves New haven.

Yale has won 3 (Shared) Ivy championships in the last 35 years. The problem obviously goes deeper than Reno.

However, I do agree with the idea that Reno must at least have a winning record this year and compete for the championship after that. The talent seems to be there.

"Yale has a wonderful tradition that seems to have taken a back seat under Reno. "

It wasn't exactly flourishing under Tom Williams.

As bulldog10jw states, the problems go deeper than Reno.

Having said that, it's time for excuses to be replace by results.

The Reno Ponzi scheme act is over. Fire him tomorrow and get in a new coach. He is a lowlife who thinks this is Bama and treats kid like sh**. You have guys on this staff who go toughguy on Ivy League kids and are total puss***. I'm talking about you Joe blame the players Conlin.

Beckett's real failure is the women's sports program at Yale.

Beckett will just keep kicking the Reno can down the road and let someone else do the inevitable. The coaching change should have taken place after last season. Really too bad because we can do better!

If you had seen the scrimmage with Brown you would recognize Reno is ready and this is his assembly. They are quite old and looked well prepared.
For your info Brown is no fish. It has some talent developing quickly.

Tom Beckett did a superb job given where he started. After Frank Ryan and Ed Woodsum, both over their heads, poor leaders and without resources, bringing in someone with athletic administration experience (what a concept!) paid off. The improvements in facilities, particularly for women's programs, joins the national title in hockey as his greatest achievement. Failure to provide adequate resources in athletic trainers, doctors and medical training infrastructure is the biggest shame of his tenure.
