This makes no sense whatsoever. HYP have been playing each other home-and-away for 120 years, ever since 1897 when Yale and Princeton stopped playing their game in New York City.

What's the point of making this change?

It looks like the Princeton-Harvard series is the one being adjusted to affect the change. P @ H in 2017, then P @ H again in 2018.

My guess: this was a domino effect.
Hypothetical example (this is MADE UP, so don't mistake this for reality):
Penn doesn't like the home/away mix of their schedule, for travel reasons. They propose to swap the years that they travel to Brown.
Brown then has an imbalance of home/away, and thus has to swap years in which it travels to Cornell.
Cornell then has an imbalance and has to swap years in which it travels to Princeton.
Princeton then has an imbalance and has to swap years in which it travels to Harvard.

Something like that, is my guess.

For some crazy reason 10-something years ago, Dartmouth and Penn were respectively playing all the New England teams and all the non-New England teams home and away. They either had minimal travel or extreme travel in a given year.

The league jiggered the schedule to correct the extremes. But someone had to play at the other twice in a row to make it happen.
