Not. But now that I have your attention.

Alumni mag reported several weeks ago the first class of transfers will total.....12. Since they ended the regular admission process of transfers many years ago due to the lack of slots they would be able to offer, I find this pretty comical. They will focus on apps from military veterans, community college attendees, and I believe low income applicants.

So, while it is not impossible for an athlete to be in this group, it is not a focus and at least two categories do not seem especially well suited for such. I have not touched base with anyone about this on campus, so maybe my take is off base.

Glad to see veterans are a focus. A few years ago administrators took a survey. The liberals who run the place and are so devoted to diversity in so many forms discovered they had a grand total of....one veteran in the undergraduate body.

The number of transfers will rise modestly in the coming years, especially after the planned 500 student increase in undergraduates body takes place. President Eisgruber has stated that there could be 1-2 ahletic transfers per year.

Thanks, yes. Just surprised they started at 12.

From their point of view, every transfer slot represents one more fully qualified frosh they need to turn down on a campus with negligible attrition. Adding a completely new process to do this, which they have, and including significant proactive recruiting of vets and CC grads, which it does, is not a tiny cost. I think they figure they’ve spent enough on Marcoux’s successful empire (see: bubble, etc.) to let her figure out how to qualify and build a case for her own recruits.

There would be virtually no cost to the University re athletic transfers. Even assuming the University picks up extra recruiting costs, which it doesn't, you don't really recruit transfers. Perhaps a paid visit -- after a player's expression of interest and his/her obtaining any needed permission -- which the PFA would likely pick up.

If that works, I assume Marcoux has Janet Rapelye’s phone number.

Hi Joiseyfan: More importantly, Eisgruber needs to call Janet. He has said, at least privately, when Provost if not more recently, that athletic transfers, under the same standards as regular athletic admits, would be ok as part of a transfer program. If he hasn't told Janet, Marcoux's call is far less useful if useful at all.

No one factor is ever outcome determinative, but allowing a transfer or two could at least be of some benefit to some of the teams. On the day Surace was named HC, a backup Big 10 or PAC 12 QB, I forget which big-time conference it was, called him inquiring of a transfer. A short conversation. And, you will recall, we really could have used whoever it was at the time. Cheers and best holiday wishes.

I suspect the communication among Eisgruber, Rapelye and the Trustees is extremely robust, especially on this issue. Will be intriguing to see who the kids turn out to be.

And a fabulous holiday to you and the rest of the forumistas too!
