He was 87. A class act and a true gentleman. The world is a better place for him.

He had such positive impact on countless lives, players, staff, students, alumni and fans. I remember he took the time to answer my letter when I was a young kid back in the late 70’s. Much later in life (2016) he took the time to talk to me about Yale football after a game outside the Bowl. I really appreciate that time he gave me.

I recommend anyone who hasn’t already read his book True Blue to do so. It’s a real tribute to the impact his like had on others.

Coach Cozza will never be forgotten. RIP.

Very glad that he was able to see one last title from Yale before he passed.

I was thinking the same thing Go Green. And thank you Go Green for recommending to me on this board a few years ago his book True Blue. I really loved reading that book.

I'm not disappointed that he was unable to witness an undefeated Yale season.

Hope that doesn't make me a bad person.

:)

1968 was 8-0-1

For some reason, I keep forgetting that the 1968 team was "unbeaten."

:)

Agree (now they don't have to win any more for a while)

I'm so sad now. A great man. I suspected he might not be well since he was not on any of Yale's radio broadcasts.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Cozza

How things could have been different. . .

"As it turned out, Yale chose Cozza over Penn State assistant Joe Paterno, who turned down the job after the Nittany Lions agreed to make him their associate head coach under Rip Engle."

. . .

"Before he coached against Harvard for the final time in 1996 he admitted that before coming to Yale he had considered the University of New Hampshire.'

My condolences to Yale football.

Gentlemen; the blue lanterns are at half mast with the loss of coach Cozza a true gent and pillar of what a coach should be. my condolences to his loved ones and our blue football family. in 1965 after the late husky interception for a touchdown condemned our blue to a 13-6 loss I made my way onto the field to give a young coach Cozza a pep talk after his first game only to find a person who although disappointed was proud of the way his blue squad played and how they would play better against the bears next week. This resolve continued throughout his career and dedication toward winning with class. There may never be another Cozza loved by his players and revered by opposing ancient eight coaches. Rest In Peace.

It was my extremely good fortune to be a manager for Coach Cozza. He was a great man and was very kind to me in many ways. A great man, a great leader, and a credit to the university and his profession.

For those of us who love Yale, and not just Yale football, Carm will forever be remembered for his outstanding qualities that extended beyond the gridiron. As far as football, for many years he helped make those "Bright College Years" even brighter.
No doubt he has reunited with his old sidekick Dick Galliete -"the voice of Yale football" and together will continue to enjoy watching the Bulldogs take the field.

Only three comments on the Yale Football Blog about Coach Cozza's passing.

Sad.

There were lots of comments on Twitter. I think the lack of comments on the Yale FB blog reflects more on its popularity than on Cozza's.

With a major obit in the NY Times I think people felt that someone had a say for them. And there are email trees between former players -lots of them. AND comments solicited by the Yale PR folks for a web site. Wait until the memorial service - many many players from across the years will all be there. There will be an amazing showing. The sad thing is Carm's passing, and the fact that there are not more like him, not the response as suggested by a person from another school.
