In reply to: Go Green 's message, "BGA has some more Dartmouth commits" on 10:44:10 01/23/18 Tue

I asked this a few years back when Dartmouth lost a pretty good recruit. But didn't really get answer...

Assume that a "commit" is a low-bander and is accepted by admissions. The guy ends up not matriculating for whatever reason (changes mind, gets caught cheating on a paper his senior spring, whatever).

Does the team get that low-band slot back? Or is it lost once the player is accepted by admissions?

This is an interesting question.

I recall reading several years ago a quote from an Ivy football coach that the two low band admits each cycle are absolutely vital to creating a high quality class. Paraphrasing his quote, he said, "You absolutely cannot make a mistake on your two low banders each cycle."

And if a low-bander comes to campus but doesn't pan out (a bust, injury, quits playing, etc.) then the team is out of luck.

But if the recruit never comes to campus... is the "slot" still lost?
