Locker rooms certainly matter to a recruit, but also to the overall team. The player spends as much time in that locker room as he does almost anywhere else. Saying it doesn't matter is like saying a team's weight room isn't important either. There's many that are afraid that the arm$ wars being done at Oregon, Texas, and Clemson are ruining college sports. But that's what gets everyone's attention. Sprint66, when you choose a hotel, do you only care that there's a mattress and a running water?

Dartmouth's greatest football teams had a single communal shower with 9 shower heads, intermittent hot water and ankle deep water when the drains frequently plugged up. Now they're playing Stetson but have lovely showers.

And players didn't take water breaks because water wasn't important, and players played with concussions and broken arms. Times change, and the best football teams now have the best locker rooms. See Alabama and Clemson, but they also have the best strength and conditioning rooms and training tables.

Dartmouth's worst football teams had the same cramped lockers, showers, etc.

Then we upgraded and won a Lambert Cup a few years later. :)

Have set a school record for consecutive nonconference victories.

And they haven't all been against Stetson.

:)

Agree 100% with GreenIvy that facilities matter, particularly in recruiting battles. These are 17-19 year old kids. Saying a locker room does not matter is like saying not having WiFi doesn’t matter, just because you still use a flip phone.

The LR does not need to be at Oregon’s level, but it has to be a significant upgrade from their high school facilities. Compared to redoing a weight room, a locker room can be entirely redone for a relatively modest amount. Replace the carpet, lockers, add a few TVs and modernize bathrooms/showers. Then paint a few big logos and like magic, it looks impressive.

If you think that stuff does not matter to today’s 18 year olds, you are out of touch. Why do you think most teams have multiple uniform combinations? Hint: It’s not to save on laundry cost.

Football Fanatic is of course correct.

Teams upgrade facilities and buy multiple uniform combinations for the same reason that they currently favor no-huddle spread offenses. They work.

By the way, speaking of people who still use a flip phone, I recently spent some time with a friend who told me that his father still watches television on an over-the-air antenna. He has no cell phone at all, let alone a smartphone, nor a computer. This guy makes *me* feel modern.
