McDaniels played it safe, but I think this decision will ultimately result in him being fired by the Patriots in 5-6 years after a disappointing head coaching stint. This is not the same squad without Brady, Gronk and Belichick. Jim Irsay seems like a loose cannon these days, but once the Patriots start having losing seasons, Kraft will become unhinged.

Or possibly in not getting the HC job in the first place, especially if, as you say, Brady retires and he has disappointing stints as an OC.

IMO Colts are better off. Most of how a coach interacts with players is based on personal integrity. What kind of respect will a HC have with his players or organization if he renegs on his verbal commitments?

Also, I have no doubt Kraft would complain mightily if he was hiring a coach, with full knowledge by the other organization of what was happening, and at the last second the other organization did what he did to McDaniels.

McDaniels may be a brilliant OC (although as you say that remains to be seen when he has a different QB), but as a HC it seems to me he's not really different from the guy who failed in Denver.
