I meant no offense to our dear friend Canada. My list title should have read: Lion commits' home states/countries

This is a very large class. The larger the class, the more likely you are to find a diamond in the rought

Loving our depth and experience at OL, LB, WR and DB. I think Josh Bean is the favorite at QB and we have a bunch of talented guys to challenge him. RBs are a question mark as is the DL. I think we'll do well at DE; not sure in the middle because of depth. Also, a question mark at TE. Could be a great year.

Josh Bean really had a fantastic freshman year as basically a Wildcat QB. He was basically our version of Jon Lovett. But the starter has to be somebody who can make all of the throws. So I would expect that Bean will see a lot of playing time, but so will whoever is the best pure passer in the group.

Bean is nearly the passer or player that Lovett is.

Boola Boola, are you saying that Bean is almost as good as Lovett? Are you a Yale guy? If so, how do you know so much about Bean?

In 22 rushing attempts, entirely in short yardage situations, Bean scored 8 TDs and passed for a 9th. That was his only passing attempt. When we were inside the 5, I can only remember him failing to score once. And he was a freshman. Maybe Lovett had a better freshman year, but Bean showed a lot last year.

How can it be 38 with a four year rolling average of 30....? Did League give Columbia dispensation ?

We had a 22 commits (or so) during Bagnoli's first year. Things are just evening out.

Bagnoli got to Columbia around the end of February and did not have a staff in place until the end of March. Signing day was first week of February. The class of 22 was yielded before Coach Bagnoli's first year. He has only had 2 recruiting classes with this current class being his third.

Add up all 4 years and the number is still over 120, although some of these 38 might not be official recruits. Sometimes walk ons announce commitments but they are not counted against the 120.

On last night's b-ball broadcast, Bagnoli said they have about 36.

The current online roster shows the following

32 graduating seniors
18 rising seniors
34 rising juniors
30 rising sophomores

So Columbia returns 82 players, not counting the three fifth years. Bringing in 38 (and a couple of those will be walk-ons) and assuming everyone else comes back, the team count will be approximately 120.

This isn't the same as counting formal recruits against the 120 rule, which is impossible without knowing which players were walk-ons, but it indicates that observing the rule with a class of 38 is feasible, as Asia Sunset says. And if I were a coach with a senior class of 18 plus three returning fifth years, I would want a large first year class too.

Also, Coach Bagnoli is 65. He'll be 67 when the these recruits are juniors and 68 when they are seniors. One presumes he's focused on developing players in the short term and winning in the short term, hence a large class now.
