Subject: Dartmouth vs Penn

Another tough loss. Was at the game last night. We started better in the first half but both teams shot very poorly. It was a hard game to watch and didn’t look like a D1 game. Dartmouth shot 27 % and you are not going to win many games doing that. We kept it close all game but once again can’t close out games. What was clear to me is that we don’t have a go to offensive scheme or player. Lots of passing around the perimeter and players trying to create but we didn’t have go to plays to free players especially whene we needed baskets down the stretch. Johnson hit a three in the last seconds which was a espme but we needed more earlier.. Not only was our three point shooting off we couldn’t finish within 10 feet and had a lot of looks. Good news is we hit our free throws where we got a lot of chances and Penn wasn’t shooting well either. 0-7 has to be tough on the team. You could see McLaughlin stressing out as the game got close and that has to be felt by the team. This may be our worse Ivy record and start ever. Most people I spoke to at the game are losing faith in McLaughlins ability. While this board keeps saying how great it is we try hard we don’t win. Cornell beat Bown last night. We own the basement alone right now. Penn was not a dominant team btw just good enough to beat us. The league is clearly down this year in overall talent.

This was certainly a year that anyone that makes it to the final 4 can win the Ivy. Penn looked good against Princeton, yet struggles with Dartmouth. Harvard looked good last night, but struggled twice with Dartmouth. As they say, you are what your record says you are. I don't know what's more surprising, that Dartmouth is close to all these games and not getting blown out or that Dartmouth hasn't won a game yet?
Something has to give. Either they will break thru with some nice wins or the team gives up and the 20 point losses are on its way.

Agree with your game description. We had a four point lead with about four minutes to go but did not score in those last four minutes until Johnson’s three pointer with 10 seconds left. Wrong time to go for a cup of coffee.

Emery had a fine game, perhaps his best yet. Rai rebounded and defended well. Jackson had 2 fouls early and only played 13 minutes. Big mistake keeping Jackson on the bench, Knight’s shooting touch disappeared. Barry missed a wide open layup and Penn successfully pressured him. Wright had a good game doing what he does.

Dartmouth has come a long, long way. McLaughlin and the players deserve great credit for that. Way too early to give up on the coaching staff or the team. They’ve proven they can play with any team in the League. Seven games left, five at home. Just win baby!!!

The good news is we are at home for the next three games. That should help. You are what your record say you are however. Losing by a little is still losing and the teams just aren’t that good this year in Ivy play. I love your optimism and am hoping we break through. This is bad basketball though. Poor shooting and mixed defense where people blow through for layups. Penn missed layups with little pressure on them. The ivy teams are playing Barry much tighter which seems to disrupt our flow. No adjustment has been made which I find surprising. Same issue as last year. McLaufhlin sticks to a formula whether it works or not and doesn’t seem to adjust. Emery played well yet McLaughlin subs him out. I don’t think he was tired. Knight had a tough game and just couldn’t shoot. Adrease was limited in playing time due to fouls . Johnson did what he does as 2 guard trying to create shots and Wright scored but wasn’t the impact player on defense he can be with effort. Just feels like yes they are playing hard but maybe not smart with the right combinations, defensive sets and offensive plays. We go dry for long stretches in these games which would speak to having some set plays to ru. To take apart a teams weakness.

They. Need. A. True. Point. Guard. Period.

Particularly if Jackson, Emery, Knight, Sistare and Rai are going to lock up the lane for “in and out” whilst Barry can spot up and bomb.

Hopefully Samuels can contribute quickly next year.

Nice win against Princeton. Finally broke through. Where is the PG we recruited from Mew Zealnad. I thought he was supposed to contribute. Haven’t seen much of him. Anyone know why?

Saw him early in the season. Smooth athlete. Is he injured?

But the guy is Issac Letoa. He's played sparingly. I can only assume that he needs some time to adjust to the US college game.
