Brown down 5-0 in first half ties number 4 Nova 8-8 in Second goes down 9-8 then takes control winning 12-9. Able goal tending for Brown and an excited Nova crowd. Good for sport.

With an upset like that, maybe there is hope that the Ivies can get two teams into the NCAA tournament...

You guys are overlooking Penn which already has a noteworthy win over Duke. Cornell usually makes a late push too.

Long way to go yet, but I am expecting 2 IL bids to NCAAs.

Penn won some faceoffs against Duke. We then went out and lost 18 out of 20 faceoffs against Penn State. The Ivies can stick with most of the top teams IF we don't get murdered at the X.

The kid from PSU has a younger brother who has committed to Penn. Maybe we will need a couple years to get him in Philly and acclimated before we can consistently beat the better teams. Meanwhile Murphy has chosen to play the best, so it will be up and down for awhile. We should stay with Nova on Saturday unless they dominate possession. We have kids, and so do other Ivies, that can play the game. We beat Navy 11-3 last night.

Question for lax experts:

Once it's clear to that you're getting killed at the face-off X, why not just instruct your face-off man the following: "Stop trying to *win* the face-off; you obviously can't beat this particular opponent. Instead, just tie him up with no attempt to pick up the ground ball. Wrestle him to a draw/standstill and wait for your wings to come in and let them determine who wins."

Sure, maybe at best the wrestling strategy might win you 35-45% of the face-offs but if you're losing 90% already, why not change approach?

Briefly, that's a standard strategy, but does not necessarily work if the guy winning FOs is skilled enough or if your wings are ineffective.

Potential downsides are wearing out your long poles needed to play close defense and possibly not being able to get them into defensive position if the guy winning FOs picks it up and starts a fast break.

But yes, coaches normally should at least try it.

Not much of a lax fan, but I can say I would take Nova over brown lox any day.
