Looking over his offer list, it's hard to see a 4* ranking. All mid-majors, and mostly not high mid-major. We will see.

"We will see," he grudgingly observes! Wonder what Calvin would have bubbled if the lad chose Yale over Harvard, rather than the other way around!

I can't access Twitter from where I am, but which other Ivies did Ciaran consider? I'm actually very pleased whenever I see a kid evaluating Harvard against other Ivies. So I applaud Ciaran choosing Harvard under those circumstances.

When Tommy first arrived at Harvard, the very obvious problem was that he was bringing in recruits who were not recruited by any other Ivies at all. To me, that raised all kinds of red flags.

I think those who "offered" in some fashion included: Harvard, Yale Columbia, Princeton and Dartmouth.

Offers received by Brayboy in chronological order, per his Twitter account:

Southern Illinois
Yale
Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Columbia
DePaul
Brown
Ball State
Wofford
Bucknell
Rice
Toledo
Ohio
Harvard
Dartmouth

I like the fact that, between his offers from Columbia and DePaul, he tweeted out, "RIP Stephen Hawking." What percent of Ivy basketball players would have a feeling of affection for Hawking? Conversely, what percent would not know who Hawking is?

I have never seen a 4* that was unranked. However, he seems like a nice recruit for Harvard.

Nice big body to have, but rated below 3 of the 4 incoming 2018 freshman. Top center in Minnesota, 8th ranked player in that state. Not sure what that means.

Without meaning any disrespect to this recruit, what we've all observed is that Tommy aims higher than this. More often than not, Harvard loses out to a power conference, but sometimes it prevails. I've seen Harvard linked to at least one top 50 recruit. More to come I guess.

is probably one of the easiest jobs in the country. Coach male or female walks into recruit's living room and says" I'd like your son or daughter to play for me at Harvard". They have heard of Harvard in Inner Outest Deepest Mongolia. Add in extremely generous fin aid end of story

since you expended untold energy extolling the alleged unparalleled skills of a FB recruit who, as far as I can tell, has yet to play in a college game.

Even you have to admit there's a big difference between choosing between H and Ball State or Rice, on the one hand, versus Duke on the other. We all know you would be the first to mock another ivy that "stole" a recruit from, say, Milwaukee or Ohio U.

If you don't want to be embarrassed again, consider slowing your roll until the kid actually gets on the court and shows what he can do - assuming he isn't just another of your AI grade builders.

We must be careful not to drive poor O back into his mommy's basement. We'd be lost without having him to provoke. He does such a splendid job embodying what we all like to think of as the Harvard archetype. He's the only one who does.

Snottiness and nastiness are typical Yalie excesses at this site.Toss out a pro-Harvard comment and the bulldoggies are all over it in a trice - snarling and chomping.

Poor dim O. Such fun to have him back conflating contempt for himself with a supposed anti-Harvard animus. Its you, O. Really.
While I'm at it, never deprive us of your company, even if you've got nothing to bray about.

Wonder how O would have reacted had the lad chosen Y over H rather than the other way around.

On second thought...no, I don't wonder.

Perhaps the Big 0 can search for, and link, all the times I have bubbled about Yale recruits. That should keep him occupied for a while - at least until the next football beat down by lowly Yale recruits.

I suspect that, at some point in time in the past, Tommy Amaker and Bob Scalise have had a discussion about what is a realistic goal for NCAA tournament performance. If I were Scalise, I would insist upon it. Perhaps it was a running discussion, beginning during Amaker's initial job interview and then intensifying after the accusatory New York Times article, when Scalise promised to "have a teaching moment" with Amaker in light of the Times' reporting on academic shortcuts.

Scalise likely had a question for Amaker: "Look, I'm giving you way more low AI slots than a 20-man roster would otherwise warrant at a school with almost a thousand varsity athletes. Given that disproportionate allocation of low AI slots, what is a realistic payback on my investment?"

My guess is that Amaker told him that, with a full allocation of low AI slots, he could realistically aim to build a Sweet Sixteen team. Anything better than that would be icing on the cake, but a good goal for Harvard is a Sweet Sixteen berth. Not every year, of course, but often enough that he can plan and allocate his own internal AI strategy around that.

Do we think Scalise is being considered for "Teacher of the Year"?
