With the Harvard/Yale game hosted by Harvard, home attendance in the "Bowl" averaged 8,795!

Do you remember 2014? Yale still outdrew Harvard even though Harvard hosted The Game.

2014 was a great season for Harvard .... 10-0 I believe the record was!
Yale was fortunate to get a big crowd of "non-regulars" for a game with Army!
Got skunked by Harvard tho.

And I remember 2016 equally well: 21-14. Speaking of “non regular ” opponents, when is the time Harvard beat a FBS school, or even tried?

Last tried: 1991 (21-20 loss to Army).

Last victory depends on whether opponent had to be FBS/IA at the time.

They beat UMass in 1985.

They beat Army in 1983.

With the best overall record this century in the so-called FCS (or minor league) ghetto of Division 1 football - and the most players on NFL rosters of any team in the said FCS - Harvard could certainly challenge itself further if there were any point to it. But of course there isn't. No post-season tournament, and no Rose Bowl game: been there/done that.

The point would be many more people would respect Harvard football, causing attendance to go up. Those impressive accomplishments you mentioned are largely unknown.

Who cares ? That is the point. You can "respect" Yale football, if that turns you on.

Ivy football attendance is declining, and will continue decline, because the evolving demographics of the undergraduate student body (which will increasingly be reflected in the alumni population) decree that football is of minor interest, now and in the future.

If Ivy students and alumni have little interest in football, why should the schools seek "respect" by playing teams whose athletic and academic goals, for the most part, they do not share?

Answer: For the same reasons they do it in all other sports.

Not ALL other sports are as expensive as football with interest declining at the same rate.
