Subject: Cornell football schedule is toughest in the Ivy League!

Cornell played Yale tough this past weekend and I do think we're a better team than last year, but not as good as 2016 when we started 3-0 including a big win over Colgate. After opening with Delaware and Yale, at first glance I thought the schedule might soften a little, but this week's opponent Sacred Heart, followed by Harvard, and then Colgate are all undefeated. Even Brown who played Harvard tough on Friday is not a given. With that being said I do think playing tough OOC opponents is the key to an Ivy title. Sure Delaware is good, but probably not any better than some of the Harvard teams in recent years. The reality is if you want to win the Ivy title you need to win those OOC games as this league is getting more competitive.

Can you give examples of Ivy champions who played the toughest OOC schedule?

Don't bother looking at 2000-2010. Dartmouth didn't win any titles then.

1971 Cornell defeated both Colgate and Rutgers during our Ivy title run. We haven't enjoyed many winning seasons in football. I can't speak for the other Ivies but both Cornell hockey and lacrosse who are league powers, every year play a very tough OOC schedule. In nearly every sport you want to be the best you have to beat the best. Last year's champion Yale team I think would have defeated Delaware.

Gentlemen; in 1980 are blue was on top of the ancient eight with victories over the huskies and falcons with a loss to the eagles. 1981 on top of the ancient eight with victories over the huskies and midshipmen.

Penn teams for a stretch played an absurdly hard non conference slate.

Lafayette when they were the best of the Patriot and yearly playoff team (see Colgate of today)

William and Mary a super talented CAA scholarship team often in the playoffs
(think a better Delaware of today)

Villanova during a stretch where they won a championship and had another NCAA semi finals appearance.
