Has anyone had difficulty accessing the comments to Jake's posts? As of about a week and a half ago, I can't access any comments, and I've tried two different devices. I've so informed Jake, but he doesn't know what the reason is for the problem.

I have noticed over the last couple of years that there have been a lot less comments on Jake's blog. There used to be sometimes as much as 10 or 15 responses, especially after a win. And given that CU has been doing much better of late, it is odd that there are such minimal comments. My guess is that Jake changed the format to require putting your real name, which I think keeps people off . I realize that there were some snarky comments in the past, but never very many, enough to warrant this change.
In any case, it seems a shame because Jake puts a great deal of effort into. Perhaps someone can relay this?

I don't think this Board is getting as many posts as it used to either.

Penn used to have a sizable contingency here. That is no longer the case.

You make a good point. The traffic on this board is lower than in past years and the absence of the Penn contingent is a big part of the difference. Asia, David Perry, Warrior II and of course foehi. A lot of the ol' Quaker stalwarts are missing in action.

I hope that it can all be explained simply by the change in fortunes in Ivy League football. More to the point, I hope that everybody is doing well. David mentioned here that he had some health problems that, hopefully, continue to be behind him.

Best of health to all.

Penn has shown that it can win a title even after getting blown away by Dartmouth (2015). Don't count them out yet!

Here's hoping that the old Penn gang is ok and returns soon! We miss them!!

Change in fortunes in Ivy League Football? LOL.

Penn has won 17 championships in the past 35 years and 2 in the past 3.

Dartmouth is setting records for most chatroom posts per championships. (Relax Go Green - just having fun).

It is now more difficult to comment on Jake’s blog. Ow it is necessary to log on etc. while previously it was not necessary to do anything other than add comments.

Personally, I'd flip Harvard and Columbia. But that's quibbling.

If what he says about Yale is true, we can expect Dartmouth and Princeton to finish 10-0 and 9-1. But which will be which?

Dartmouth has soundly beaten 2 of the better teams in the Ivies while Princeton has crushed teams that are not at Yale and Penn's level.

Assuming Princeton holds serve at home against Brown, we won't get a clear indication of how they stack up in a 60 minute contest until they visit Harvard the week after that.

But if Jake's assessment at this point in the season holds true, the P-D game should be a fun showdown between the league's two best teams.

I will be there!

Who's to say Columbia is not at Penn's or Yale's level? Penn just struggled by the same Sacred Heart team Cornell crushed. Yale lost to Holy Cross. The jury is out on both Penn and Yale.

Yes it is very inexact to make comparisons based on who beat who. As you mentioned, Yale lost to Holy Cross, and Holy Cross is 1-5, losing its latest game to Bucknell, Who is to know if Holy Cross is any better than Marist or other teams.
I think the only tell tale sign is what your record is, it seems, to determine how good you are.

Yale actually was ahead of Dartmouth for part of the game (however briefly).

That's impressive.

Columbia, and Monmouth for that matter, were ahead of Princeton for part of their games (however briefly).

Then they are all better than Penn!!

:)

In any event, this will sort itself out. There's a Princeton guy on the ASG Board who is furious that Lovett isn't being acknowledged as a finalist for the FCS MVP...

I mean, we're not even at the midseason point yet.

Fair point, Ivy Patriot. Jury is out for all of these teams until we see more head-to-head match-ups.

Jury is still out on Dartmouth unless we break the Harvard curse on 10/27 at home. If we can't win that one this year we aren't in the conversation with Princeton

We lost to Harvard then, yet vanquished "unbeatable" Princeton.

Trust me, when you are 7-1 against the opponent's coach, you're "in the conversation."

I don't see Princeton scoring 60+ on Brown unless Surace really has a personal beef with Estes. Surace understands those merciless beatings on Ivy foes could come back to haunt him if and when Princeton has a down year in the future.

I doubt Estes will be around long enough to get that sort of revenge if Princeton does humiliate the Bears this weekend.

Would love to be wrong though. Everyone says Estes is a great guy.

How do you tell vets at the end of the bench or, for that matter, promising young freshmen or sophs, that they can’t play just because the game is no longer in doubt. I’ll concede that you don’t use your top players, which would be unnecessary and expose them to possible injury, or save clock to extend the game. But beyond that, the purpose of clearing the bench when the outcome is settled is to reward the less used vets with PT and develop the newcomers for the future. The same goes for the losing team.

While I agree that if starters can't stop the other team's third string, then the game probably should not have been scheduled in the first place, I'd prefer that the third string run as basic a playbook as possible. Like no passing unless it's third and long.

Then again, if your third stringers run a fullback slam up the middle (which is as basic as it gets) and the guy goes the distance, then the losing team has NOTHING to gripe about.

But I'm not going to get too worked up over it. If you don't want to be blown out, then play better.

T69 triggered a thought. Just from a logistics standpoint, how do you get 88 guys into the game (check Princeton’s participation list) with only three penalties? By definition, a minor miracle, and hardly something you practice as such. The discipline involved with the scrubs scoring 3 TDs while shutting out their opponents while the coaches were figuring out who to send in the game is intriguing.
