Not much known about this year's team but last year they played against two top SEC teams including National Champion Alabama. Lost to Bama 56-0 and lost to Auburn 24-10. I don't think any Ivy team last year could have played that well against Auburn. This year's team has played Memphis and lost 66-14. By comparison Memphis beat UConn 55-14.
Mercer has a good passing game and speedy rbs; hard to tell how good their defense is compared to teams Yale has already played.

They gave up over 400 yards against the pass.

6.2 yds/attempt (434/70] & gave up only 55 yds rushing

Yale is currently averaging giving up 7.9 yds/attempt

In the IL, only Princeton & Dartmouth pass D’s are giving up less than 6.2 yds/attempt

6.2 yds/attempt would rank #24 in FCS.

Mercer is actually averaging giving up 8.2 yds/attempt, which is #103 in FCS...so the last game wasn’t so bad, relatively.

Maybe they are improving...or maybe they didn’t play Memphis in that game.

Speaking of attempts...

Is anyone attempting to cover the turf in the Yale Bowl from the expected heavy rains forecast for all day Thursday?

Flood the swamp, don't drain it. The tigers will need water wings.

Team seems excited to play at the historic Yale Bowl. Wonder what their impression of the field will be. Hope there is a good attendance for the game - not often we get to play a team from the South and it should be a pretty even match of talent.

Let's hope they travel well. It's the only way the attendance will be decent.

Mercer Alumni Association is hosting a Tailgate for Mercer Alums in the local area & Players’ Families usually travel pretty well. If Hurricane Michael, Delta Airlines, Countour Airlines, Amtrak, Hertz Rent-a-Car, and the Lord are willing, FUBeAR, Mrs. FUBeAR, and our Former (graduated) Football Bear will be there. We are all very excited to attend a game in the historic Yale Bowl. We are just baffled by the condition of the field though.

Maybe a couple of hundred total, so attendance to generate enough incremental gate receipts to fund, what?...the ink needed to print out just a few of the 000000000’s on a couple of Yale’s endowment statements. :-)

THANKS!! Staying at Courtyard on Whalley and beer is my favorite food group, so New England Brewing sounds great! Definitely looking for some FAMOUS New Haven Pizza. Seems to be quite a bit of disagreement on ‘the best.’ Seen Modern Pizza mentioned in most debates as a ‘contendah.’ Might be the one.

Did y’all get that field covered with a tarp before the rains today? Maybe during the sunshine late Friday, you guys can take a push reel mower out there & bring it down to about an inch long from the usual, I’d guess, 3 inches. So, with the lighter rain forecast for Saturday morning, perhaps, it will only be “unbelievably awful” instead of “full-blown disastrous.” ;-)

For locally sourced excellent (non-pizza) food, I suggest Zinc on Chapel across from the Green. May be too late for tomorrow night, but in the future!

every visiting team in the last 25 yrs that has visited the Bowl has been baffled by the field conditions at the Bowl considering Yale has an endowment over 20 Billion, a golf course just up the road that has (hopefully) professional greenskeeper's but the surface at the bowl still sux. It is baffling but at least we know that Yale probably has at least 10 gender designations right?

You Yale guys should be outraged. Live it or Live with it, the field is a disgrace for an University with such prestige. Just curious as to how much it would cost the University to have a good not great field every year 1-mill to 3 mill Yale? probably wastes that in a month with a bloated bureaucracy (BTW Dartmouth does too)

If any of y'all (we ARE from the South, y'know) are interested in a "Tale of the Tape" that I derive for Mercer's games from the Depth Charts published by both Teams in their Game Notes & the info in online Rosters, you can find that here - http://mercer.freeforums.net/post/6748 - It is a comparison of various position groups, 'sides of the ball' by HT/WT and by experience. Probably doesn't matter much in the outcome of games, but I find it interesting. Mercer hasn't published Yale Game Notes yet, but I will update the "Tale..." when they do. Shouldn't be too much change from the info you can see now. Cliff Notes Version: Mostly 2 evenly matched Teams by Size & Experience - On the average, it seems Yale is slightly taller, Mercer is slightly heavier & Mercer is slightly more exp'd (probably due to Redshirting and the way I account for that in the "Experience Rating."
