He was HM all-Met in 2019, which usually means an all-conference player. Not a strong conference, but he did this a couple seasons ago as a young player (maybe sophomore?)

Liam O'Brien Deerfield, MA 6-1 197 QB
Offers: Holy Cross, Dartmouth

This one is kind of interesting. He had committed to Cornell as a senior for lacrosse. He then decided to focus on football and reclassified to the Class of 2022 and take a PG year at Deerfield Academy. Last year he was 1st Team All Colorado. I'm going to check out his film, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Go to his Twitter page and click on his HUDL link. I’d post the link but I really don’t know how to do it on my phone.

If you scroll down you’ll find the lacrosse stuff and he is listed as a Cornell commit on Inside Lacrosse for the Class of 2021.

I did eventually watch the video. It’s high school granted but he was to Fairview what EJ Perry is to Brown. We’ll see.

Scanning this list, it looks like almost all players are from prep schools or private schools. Would be interesting to see how the prep/private school vs public school background breaks down on each roster and if there is any correlation to team performance. I know Yale has a pipeline with certain prep schools.

I do this analysis every year. In most years the private school number plus the parochial school number is close to the public school number. Sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more. The comparison is misleading because the public school athletes in the Ivy League are from high schools in upscale suburban areas where the public school systems are excellent. The analysis is also somewhat misleading because the
best students among the best athletes from urban areas where the public schools are not as good generally end up in parochial or private schools in their home towns.

You made an interesting point. I quickly checked and last year we got the 10th commitment on 9/6. Is there a trend this year? Hard to tell because some Ivies seem to have more than 10 by now and others less.

Best my recollection, Dartmouth's current six commitments is far and away the most commitments we've had prior to the beginning of the high school senior season.

But as our esteemed colleague astutely noted this summer, having early commitments from the lightest recruited guys probably is not a good thing. (Not saying that's the case for Penn, as their early recruits look fine).

I’d have to go back and check but I believe Princeton’s 2022 commit list is up to 15-16 and for 2021 they only had a total of 20 or so which means they are recruiting faster than last year’s pace. But they need to be ahead of the game in order to offset last year’s small class.

If a kid has committed, what's the rationale for keeping it a secret?

If he's hoping that the offers keep on coming, then that's not much of a commitment...

We all know some commitments are like high school weddings.
Seems like a good idea at the time, but rarely lasting.

The ivy track record for commitments is pretty good. Much better that the P5 where everyday players announce they are re-opening recruiting ... after being committed for months or a year. De-committers seem to like the attention, and free trips to big games (and ongoing efforts from coaches to "flip" them).

I tend to look posting of an ivy university provided commitment graphic, as an imprimatur of mutual understanding.

Not just high school weddings. Ivy League weddings as well.

In a survey of my class, 9.5% of respondents who had been divorced agreed with the statement, "On my wedding day, I thought this might not be a good idea."

After one Fourth of July weekend, I asked my boss at the time what he had done over the weekend. He looked down and responded sheepishly, "Oh, man. I had a crazy weekend. I flew to Paris and married [his girlfriend]."

Seven months later, she delivered a baby boy.

There's just something slightly jarring about highly educated middle-aged professionals who fall into this circumstance. He had degrees from Harvard, Wharton and Notre Dame.

His wife was absolutely gorgeous and a really nice woman so it all worked out. They're still married 25 years later.

Also had a Dartmouth offer. From NJ.com where he ranked in their just released top 10 LBs in the state:

John Lista, Rumson-Fair Haven, Sr.

Height/weight: 6-1, 215

College: Undecided

Scouting report: A second team, All-Group 3 selection, Lista has upheld and exceeded the Rumson-Fair Haven tradition of stout inside linebackers. He is reactive, excellent at coming off blocks and a top-shelf run-stopper. He is also outstanding on the blitz. While still undecided about his college plans, Lista has offers from Kent State, Lehigh, Monmouth and Penn according to 247Sports. In eight games last season, Lista made 75 total tackles with four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
