Josh Smythe-Macauley, the 6'2" 188 lb safety and outside linebacker from Bowie High School in Austin, Texas, has committed to the Columbia Lions. That's the same high school as was attended by our sophomore wide receiver Josh Wainwrigh. Congratulations to Josh Smythe-Macauley, his family and friends on his becoming part of the Columbia Football Family. Smtyhe-Macauley was was also offered by Air Force, Army, Navy, New Mexico and Rice

Mountain Lion, thanks as usual for news of the latest recruit, it's been a while since we've heard anything. I'd also like to mention that I believe our wr Kyle Castner has caught every ball thrown his way this season including some spectacular grabs. After his terrific showing yesterday I hope he is used more often, especially with Smith out.

Thanks Roar. I agree with you regarding Castner and, of course, if Ronald Smith can return to action for the Cornell and Brown games that would make our passing game that much stronger. However, I am not concerned about our passing game, it's the running game that needs immediate improvement. Obviously, our running game has been unproductive this season and the coaching staff has to make some significant changes if we are going to win the Ivy League Title. This is the biggest challenge our coaching staff has faced all season. Can Coach Bagnoli find a breakaway runner in the next four days? Can the coaching staff add some options to the running game to make it more formidable. Can we enhance the wildcat formation to utilize Josh Bean's myriad talents?

I don't like the Josh Bean experiment. If it was good idea every team in high school college and pros would use it, You take away too much from the offense.

A) If Bean would run straight ahead with built-up momentum, rather than east-west 5 yards behind scrimmage before making his cut, he would be more effective. Why not put a Refrigerator Perry type in there in 1-2 yard situations?

B) Running game sucked at Yale, but we have a couple of quick backs. Use them better.

C) Running issues aren't in O; they're in D. Dudek cleared the line, and then we failed to stop him in secondary. No more misses or arm tackles and problem is solved. Concentrate.

We are talking about the Fr QB that has 8 or 9 rushing TDs in like 5 games?

We don't like that?

Huh? Hasnt there been multiple seasons in recent history where we as a team have not scored 8 or 9 TDs in 5 games?

The two outside runs vs Yale very poorly designed or at least easily predicted by Yale defense.

But come on the kid has been lights out.

Josh Bean has been fabulous in the wildcat formation this season . It was not his fault that the Lions rode out the basic vanilla wildcat formation one game too long. It's unlikely that will happen again. But maybe yes, maybe no, maybe yes, maybe no, maybe yes, maybe no......!

Not only has Josh Bean scored a ton of touchdowns out of the wildcat, Anders Hill didn't take any hits on those plays. Very smart move by the coaches, imo.

I think Brackett hurt his shoulder badly one year running one in at the goal line.

Agreed. Hard to find fault with Bean, who has been a touchdown machine. The plan faltered last week for the first time, but hopefully that was a lark and he can get back to his previous success.

Anyone know if John Foreback is a likely recruit for Columbia. He is a three star QB and Columbia is listed as one of the schools that is pursuing him.

Columbia has shown interest in Foreback for months, but he hasn't committed yet, so the Lions have have just offered three other outstanding quarterbacks. With Anders Hill graduating, all of the incoming freshman quarterbacks will contend for playing time immediately. That seems like a great opportunity to me.

Mountain Lion, you're not usually a teaser, can you give us some names? (the QB recruits)
