I guess I'm confused here. I understand why there is a baseball playoff. There is no real round robin. You play 4 games against the 3 Division rivals and two each against the other 4 teams. It makes sense to have a best two out of three between Division Champs to crown a League Champ.
But FB is a true round robin. A 7-0 team from the North Division could be matched up against a 4-3 team from the South Division. It's not analagous to baseball, nor to the concept of an Ivy basketball post season tourney where the tournament wouldn't determine the league champion; rather, the NCAA automatic bid recipient. We obviously have no fb post season to worry about. Perhaps you can elaborate on your thinking.
The 11th game is really the missing piece. We all seem to agree on this point. Penn scrimmages Division 3 Widener two weeks before the season opener and then the players sit and watch everyone else in the country playing the following week. Even Widener now starts its season a week earlier than Penn does. It makes 0 sense to me.
