Over 4 years? An experiment to see how it works out? A temporary response to temporary roster bump ups due to the extra year of eligibility?

If you cut below 120 over 4 years permanently, you put at risk jv programs. People don't come to our schools to play jv ball. But it provides experience in the varsity's defensive and offensive schemes and many, many players in the League who are contributors in their later years have gotten that experience. Some are good enough to see the varsity field as frosh, but many don't.

Of all the things Ivy administrators are currently dealing with, they come up with this?

It's an interesting decision but it probably makes sense because the schools see that they're going to have an unusual amount of fifth years for the next four years. Maybe limiting new classes to 25 is what will keep numbers at 120. I think Columbia has 130+ in the program right now, with 60 of them in their first year of eligibility.

I respectfully disagree. If a school thinks it has more than the usual number on its roster due to the covid impact and response thereto, then that school can take fewer recruits in a given year. Princeton did that last year. You don't need a League-wide mandate which, if temporary, is unnecessary and is a dangerous precedent. The AD works it out with the FB coach and tells the Admissions Director we will take a specific number which is less than usual in a given year.

If Hanover Plain is correct, it is permanent.

I understand that every rostered player during 2020-21 was given an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, but I was under the impression that as of now the IL had agreed to allow 5th year players only for the 2021-22 year. Has that been expanded/extended by the IL?

I though this was a one time exception for seniors.
