40 years ago today. Don't believe the article, which states 11/11 as the date...Princeton journalism / jumbo shrimp ;-)

4th and 2 at about the Princeton 20. A first down ices the games. Rich Diana in the backfield. A FG only puts you up by 5 and the D hadn't stopped Princeton at all in the 2nd half.

What would your call have been?

gentlemen; speaking on the obvious mr. Diana off right tackle after all only had 222 yds previously the failure to make this call was one of the worst decisions in the history of the ancient eight from 1981 forward.

Agree with Bulldog10jw and Old Blue on the call. Terrible, terrible decision.

90% of coaches are playing not to lose, as was the case with Carm in 1981 as twilight was settling in over venerable Palmer Stadium, may it rest in peace.

Going for it on fourth down was the right move, with or without one of your all-time great running backs lining up in the backfield.

That's why you've got to tip your hat to Surace going for broke at the end of the first half last Saturday and then playing for the touchdown on fourth down early in the third quarter. Surace is one of the very few coaches in college sports who consistently plays to win.
