Five Brown players made first team all ivy in volleyball, two freshmen, two sophomores, and a junior. In addition, all of the other awards, best player, best defender, best rookie, and best coach went to Brown. All awards were earned. There are only seven players on the first team, so I was surprised that Brown took five. Yet, all of the players mentioned were deserving. On the 22nd Brown will play USC. This game has been added to the schedule and is not part of the NCAA tournament. It is a good move by Brown to test themselves against a team like USC because volleyball and California are like Texas and football.
The other interesting news is that soccer coach Pat Laughlin and field hockey coach Jill Reeve were let go. I have been screaming for Laughlin's departure for several years. Watching them play this year was painful. They were more disorganized than a youth soccer team. Dreadful. Hopefully, Brown will get a coach who can restore the once great program. As for coach Reeve, she had a very poor record but I suspect much of that had to do with Brown's indifference.
Good to see that the new AD, Calhoun, is demanding results. It is about time. I agree with the Princeton philosophy, if you are going to field a team, then you need to support that team so that they can compete for championships. Enough of these "representative teams".

Yes, both programs were moving in the wrong direction.

I would like to see Grace Calhoun bring in an established European coach for field hockey--to bring that style of play and the best talent to College Hill.

I agree with G & B's point about ""play to win". In field hockey that requires mining international.
