Have the QB punt it.

It doesn't have to be pretty, but if you line up as if you're going for it, then chances are that Harvard will not have anybody back to receive/return the kick.

Really? Pretty damn risky unless Grooms has experience punting. Have same view on fake fgs. If going to go for it, use your qb to throw a pass, not some kicker who throws one pass a year

We practiced it at Dartmouth in my day.

I don't think we ever used it in a game though...

Quick kicks or pooch punts are way underutilized.

In a traditional kick, your regular punter might put it up and get 40 yards in the air. There's maybe a 2-3% chance he gets it blocked. More importantly, the average return might be 5 yards, so the net gain is 35 yards. The right hand tail of the punt distribution curve is pretty fat at the 15-20 yard mark and includes a 1% chance of a house call.

Meanwhile, let's say that your quarterback is no more skilled than your average 20-year-old who practices in his backyard. He gets it off 25 yards but, because there is no return man, it bounces and then dribbles another 5-10. From your own 45-yard line, you've now got your opponent starting from his own 20. I'd take that 8 times out of 10.

That is, the right hand tail of the punt **RETURN** distribution curve is still pretty fat at the 15-20 yard mark, and at the far end, includes a 1% chance of a house call.

But many of the QB's may have punted in high school and could pull that off. Clearly it is up to the coach to have practiced that beforehand. My guess is that they did not practice the pooch punt,

I liked the throw on 4th and 7…consumed 8 seconds and had a chance to end game with first down.

Credit Harvard d for playing it well.

We are burying the lead. No way can you let a team drive 67 yards in 38 seconds with no timeouts. All you have to do is tackle guys in bounds and keep everything in front. Not sure what happened on the long pass play but clearly a broken coberage

A sensible assessment.

Yet another example of a prevent defense malfunction.
