A word on Cole Smith. Smith unflashily gutted his way through the season. He had some rough patches for sure, with picks and sacks accumulating in some key games. But I think he earned the staff’s confidence when he threw a pick 6 with 3 minutes left against Monmouth tying the score, called the offense together on the sideline, and then led them to the winning FG. Yesterday, against a tough Penn run defense, he led the team in rushing even with the one sackabd was more than adequate as a passer. He led us to a 9-1 season and a title. When you look at the line of QBs Surace has brought in, Smith is a worthy addition And it makes me guardedly hopeful for next year when, for the third season in a row, we will have a new QB. Our most experienced passer is 5-9. More on this later, but the way we used Vangerelli exclusively as a goal line RB I wonder if we will see more 2 QB sets next season.

In general, I am a big supporter of Occam's Razor. When I listen to all the conspiracy theorists spew their opinions on talk radio, my first thought is, "Why do some people think that, the more complicated an explanation is, the more likely it is to be correct? The exact opposite is true."

My league-wide network of moles and contacts tell me that White today throws a beautiful ball every bit becoming of his accolades coming out of high school. So he's got the arm talent. Indeed, I thought Surace might break glass in case of emergency after the disaster up in Hanover.

But it's clear that Surace prefers a signal caller who can run, who can take a quarterback draw outside or right up between the tackles. When the Tigers get closer to the goal line, Surace wants a quarterback who can get take it right into the A gap, so in comes a guy even bigger than Cole Smith.

I hope that all the Ivy seniors throughout our League seriously consider taking their final year of Covid-granted eligibility somewhere else. You'll have the rest of your life to be a grown up. Can Zane Dudek heal fully in nine months? I believe the answer is yes. How about Collin Eaddy?

I'd like to see *ALL* the Brevin White's in our conference somewhere else a year from now. Brevin White himself just needs to find himself an OC somewhere in America who prefers a traditional pocket passer slinging the ball from inside the tackle box. Would love to see him on Saturday afternoons next fall in a mid- or low-level FBS offense, showing us what Nick Saban saw in him back in 2016.

Many of the Ivy schools allow taking a semester off. P finally allowed this some years back, rather than requiring a full year leave, well after several of the other Ivies allowed it. Some Ivies allow a 9th semester (not P or a couple of others).

For Ivy footballers who entered in 2018, they can exercise one of these options and play for their current team in 2022 for their fourth year of eligibility. Our starting TE, Carson Bobo, has publicly announced he will take off this spring and return in the fall. I hope other of his teammates will do the same.
