Thanks much for your spot on comments in the other thread, including congrats to DC. You know, Colman had an identical winning percentage as Caldwell. Right now, I would lump Surace together with those two, who admittedly coached in a different era than Bob, at the top of the post WWII coaching pile at Princeton. Hopefully he can stay there, it isn’t easy.

Tiger81: I am a bit surprised we have not seen more announcements from kids in next year’s class. Probably begin to see more after Thanksgiving. Cheers.

Your Colman comments are spot on.

Did not realize that he became AD at Middlebury after he left Princeton.

Not to re-ignite the stars debate, but curious that a recruit (Edmonson) with 0 stars has offers (or maybe just interest?) from multiple SEC, Pac 12, Big10, Big 12, and majors.

This will partially address that anomaly ... there was an error in my spreadsheet!

However, that no-star recruit does have a P5 offer (Kansas)

He tweeted that he de-committed about a month ago and said he was re-opening his recruitment. He has not reported any other activity, but a week later he ran for 230+ yards and 6 TDs so he may have gotten some interest from big-time programs that turned his head.

Thanks. I think Baylor offered him. His listed 40 and 100 times are scary.

I never count on anyone until they actually show up in the fall. He would be a good one to get, but so be it.

I was hoping we would recruit 5 DBs this year, I have none listed as sophomores on the current roster.

IMO we also need a fifth OL recruit, if not 6 (I see only two soph OLs on the roster), and another WR, DL, QB (now that Frakes decommitted), 2 LBs, and a Punter (I am not sure we have a backup to Powers coming back). The staff may calculate differently because some of these position groups do have larger than usual numbers among the current frosh to junior classes. I prefer generally having a recruit at every position each year, but then I am not football coach, let alone one with 4 titles in the last 8 years. If the reduction in allowable recruits is immediately effective, this would crimp my suggestions.

Best wishes to Frakes. He referenced NMS as his first FBS offer, so maybe he was waiting for one all along. He further tweeted that he will enroll there in January. That leaves us with 4 returning QBs (unless White opts to return) and one recruit. So we definitely need another QB.

I never count recruits as 100% solid until they show up at pre-season camp. As you reported earlier, Jaiden Robertson decommitted earlier in the fall. He has since had conversations or visits with other Ivies. Cheers.

The breakdown so far is:

QB 1
K 0
LS 1
RB 4
WR 1
TE 1
OL 4
DL 2
LB 3
DB 4

Based on the last "full size" class, they will likely need to add 5 more DL/LBs, 2 DBs, 2 WRs and another OL, QB and K to round out the class.

A big priority must have been RB because the top two recruits from this year's freshman class never enrolled. There are 4 RB commits and all have 3-star ratings so it appears Coach Surace has filled that hole nicely.

The quality so far has been very high with 9 recruits holding P5 offers and 12 receiving 3-star ratings from 247. But as Bengal noted, we won't really know anything until next year's roster is published the week before the season starts.

An unknown for this recruiting class is how many seniors will follow the Carson Bobo model and take off the Spring term so that they can play one more year in 2022. If a large number of players do that I imagine that will influence the size and composition of this class so that the roster does not get overloaded.

Before the WBB game starts: I gather you consider Price Williams an RB. I have him as a WR, but he also has been described as someone who can play TE and DB in addition to RB. At this point, I don't know where the coaches will put him. Tahj Owens, who I have as an RB, also plays DB. Even with that I have Scarano, Jones, Hill, Williams and now Cross as DBs.

I have Beesley and Roland as LBs, who do you have as the third one?

Adding 12 more to your list would take us to 33, 6 over the average of 27 if that average is now applicable.

This post is what happens when covid surges. Onto to ESPN+. Cheers.

When players commit I look at their tweets, newspaper articles, and year-end honors to see if I can figure out the position they are likely to play. So it is just “informed speculation” on my part and is not necessarily accurate. FWIW I have Price Williams as a RB and Scarano as a LB, but your guess is as good as (or better than) mine.

As for the size of the 2022 recruiting class, there are 37 juniors, 14 sophomores, and 37 freshman (including those who deferred from the sophomore class), which is a deficit of 2 from the typical 30-member class. And when next year’s seniors graduate that will put a big dent in the roster. However, if the league imposes the 27 player recruit cap that will obviously change the math.

I don’t have better info. Scarano did play LB as well as Safety and RB. He noted OLB on his Twitter feed, so maybe he will play there. We’ll find out when Surace talks about this class next spring or summer.

Unless they tweet or otherwise publicly mention it like Bobo, we won’t know until pre-season camp at the earliest if any other listed senior will return in the fall. I am aware of 6 seniors who have said they have entered the portal.

You are welcome. BTW, of the players listed as seniors on the 2021 roster, only about 20, which I listed in another thread, have eligibility left.

Five were starters in 2021: Byrd, Scaglione, Bobo, Beard, and Classi. Bobo said he would return. I have not seen the other starters declare one way or the other but I have not checked the portal.

Others who I have not read anything about, like Zambrano and Roberts, had significant backup roles.

As I assume is the case for each Ivy team, the number of 2021 seniors with remaining eligibility is a significant pool of talent/experience. Bobo is a 1st Team All-Ivy. Of course, the number of those who return can impact the quality of their team's play. But all of this is relative among the 8 schools in terms of how a season plays out.

T81: Charley Rossi WR 5'8" 175 lbs. South Fayette HS (Pa), Lawrenceville PG; Sacred Heart, Dayton, Valparaiso.

You had him last year as taking the PG year. Some PGs take that route to round out their academics, but he might have been more a victim of the reduced numbers we took last year. Whatever the story is, he spent the year at Lawrenceville and I believe is still expected down the road at our place this year.
