Now **YOU'RE** jumping the gun, calling for Amazon $5000.

Let's wait for Berube to win her second Ivy title first. I think she will and I think, based on only a few data points (can't trust any season with Alarie in it), that Berube is that good, but she is still only a second-year Division I coach. Stanford would have its pick of any coach in the country besides the top, say, ten. Not sure that Berube would climb into that echelon even with success at Old Nassau.

Obviously, she is a "legacy" at UConn, but women's basketball at UConn is a business, even more so than it is at South Carolina or Notre Dame. The only comp on the women's side was Tennessee under Summitt. UConn doesn't just win under Auriemma; they fill seats. It's a whole different calculus. I don't think that legacy status will count for much when it comes down to a business decision.

They've taken it down now, but I still recall the 5'x 6' mural that used to be posted on the wall at my casino. Auriemma is beaming after his first national championship, still unaware of the greatness which lay in his future. His women surround him with expressions of joy. Women assistants, women coaches, women trainers. He's the only male in the picture. And there in the corner, almost invisible, is a very fetching 18-year-old freshman guard who had just hit the two free throws necessary to win the title. Beautiful picture, beautiful young woman.
