It's a shame because they are some good recruits on the team now, but they are not coached well. It has been 2016 since Kyle Smith had one of the best records for a CU team in many years (26 wins)--which should have ushered in a new era of prominence in the program, but instead it went off the dead end and is still going down--in free fall. Now 6 years later the team has only a handful of wins during that entire span. Something is wrong when you only win one Division I game in the last 15 and counting. Pandemic or not, all the other teams have had the same disadvantages. CU's AD has done a great job hiring the womens basketball coach Meg Griffith, who is a real winner, but Engles seems lost. The AD must be careful that he doesn't wait too long and send the program so far down in a tailspin (like the football program a couple of decades back) where it will become a laughing stock and too hard to climb back up again. It will be especially embaressing if more of CU's good players abandon ship and transfer like the others have recently. These kind of things get around, fast.

Coach just got an extension so there's no $ for a buyout, and Bollinger's already dumped a ton of money into football (with not much to show) so sit back and watch. For those who want to believe there are a bunch of talented young players in the program, go ahead and compare this freshman class to others around the league as the year goes on.

Too bad Engles got an extension. I wonder for how long? There are some good players in the CU freshmen class, but these players I have a sense would have been a bigger deal 10 or 15 years ago, but the Ivy League has become more competitive since then, and CU has failed to keep up. CU's current players can't really match the other players in the league now at HYP who are more talented, some of whom are borderline Big Ten talents. To be sure, CU has had a few excellent players recently in Mike Smith, Stefanini and Tape, but they are all gone now and were wasted during the Engles era.

AD was left with no choice. He foolishly thought he could fill Wien and Levien with ticket buyers and be flush with cash to buy out Engles' last year and have money left over for a new coach. But he was disastrously wrong so, with no choice, he had to re-up Engles. Now you're looking at a major rebuilding job this year and next, just to get a chance at making the 4th playoff spot. Engles is a good coach, but as we've seen, good coaches like Joe Jones (who rescued the program from the scrap heap) and Kyle Smith can pull out all the stops and recruit solid four year players just for a winning record, then leap at the first chance to flee.
