Villanova up 14-0 over Holy Cross in FCS playoff game. I think Holy Cross would have finished 5th in the Ivy League behind Dartmouth, Princeton, Harvard and Columbia.

They beat Yale and they beat UConn, which beat Yale and they are within striking range of Villanova after three so they may be better than you are giving them credit for.

Fair enough. I watched Harvard crush them earlier this year and thought Yale actually outplayed them in their loss. And think Dartmouth and Princeton are definitely better than HC and Columbia about even with them.

HC lost 21-16 and had a very good chance to win with less than 4 minutes left. Their qb is the real deal and Coach Chesney is top shelf. Memo Buddy Teavans of Dartmouth-get Holy Cross back on the schedule rekindle that rivalry and as a bonus you get the best attendance in Hanover for a game-HC has a great following unlike the Ivies. The athletic tradition at Holy Cross a school of 3000 dwarfs the sports traditions of most ivies. Also as this weeks ncaa graduation study showed HC’s rate of 99 tied for first with Harvard and Yale

Holy Cross and UNH are the only two OOC teams that I think Dartmouth has some "juice" with. We've had some good games against other OOC teams over the years, but it's just not the same.

Holy cross has played Dartmouth 80 times unh vs Dartmouth about 40 times. HC has also played Harvard Yale and Brown since the early 1900s which is amazing for a Catholic school(no Notre Dame , Villanova, Georgetown nor Boston College) Add HC to the mix and the Ivy League could accurately be called the Ancient 9. Colgate had played Cornell a lot but doesn’t have the depth with HYD.

Harvard, Yale, and Brown were all within train service from Worcester, much less so for Notre Dame, Georgetown, or Villanova.

No train service from Washington to philly or Princeton in the 1900s -not quite. Knute Rockne and ND played USC via train in the 1920s. Villanova, Georgetown and Boston College did not have adequate on campus football stadiums Georgetown still doesn’t Holy Cross Fitton Field 25000 capacity was built in 1920s which was considered huge especially for a school of 1400 students back then

Despite losing its outstanding defensive player Holy Ctoss gave Villanova a ll it could handle. A few breaks, just a few, and HC w outdoor be playing next week maybe
HC has an excellent QB. The team is absolutely well coached.

By sheer distance, Worcester is closer to Harvard, Yale, Brown, and Dartmouth than the closest Ivy is to Washington.

On December 5 1931, teams from Brown Dartmouth Holy cross and Yale played a charity tournament at Yale bowl. Labeled the Gloomy Bowl the teams raised money for charity as the US was in the depth of Great Depression. A chronicle of the event written by former Dartmouth SID, indicates the team event was great success with 28000 attending the Yale Bowl at $2 a ticket, Great chronicle on Ivy/Holy Cross history. Job well done Brown Bears,Dartmouth , Holy Cross Crusaders and Yale Bulldogs of 1931!

We watched the Holy Cross vs. Nova on ESPN+ and it was a very good game. It appeared to be a huge crowd as both sides of the stadium were full, but they listed 5K in the box score as it looked more like 10K on television. Maybe the announced crowd was incorrect? Regardless both teams came to play!

Great summary of the game, thought HC make a tactical mistake on the last series-should have run the ball more. Holy Cross qb Sluka is exciting to watch as mentioned earlier would like to see HC - Dartmouth back on annual basis too good of a rivalry should not lapse. Any Big Green fans have any insight on future Dartmouth schedules

Yes, Holy Cross not in view the next few years.

It was not long ago that folks were screaming to get UNH and Colgate back on the Dartmouth OOC schedules and that has been done. Army is also scheduled but they (Army) may well back out of that. Not much room to add HC without an 11th game and schedules are pretty set for the next decade.

Who was screaming to get Colgate back on our schedule?
